Bad head in the mornings

just a Quick one i have been waking up with a head that feels like i have been on the red wine and mouth so dry head clears after i have had lots of coffee any one else have this prob or am i going down with some thing AGAIN thanks

Sounds like dehydration to me, unfortunately coffee - and tea can be contributory factors. Water, juice and squash would be better.

Thanks Magpuss maybe your right i dont drink much water or squash really not in to cold drinks but may be i will give it a try and see if it helps ihpe you are well in this dam cold weather

Decaf tea, Yorkshire decaf is best IMO. I use decaf Lavazza in my coffee machine - no one has ever noticed.

I don't like cold drinks either so have warm lemon squash or lemon juice & honey.

Switched to decaf a few weeks ago (simply stopped using caffeinated drinks), suffered the "headaches from hell" for almost a week and now it's fine. Decaf seems an easy "win"

Yes, frequently head aches are caused by not enough water. Hot water is just as good actually better at this time of year, especially if your ever bunged up. I boil the kettle and keep topping up a mug with the water.

Hello dyson .

Definitely dehydration could be a factor. When it gets colder, we tend to drink less water. We aren't as thirsty as in the warmer months. Winter, with the dry cold air and heating can make us very dehydrated without us realizing it. I try to stick to two coffees a day. And after five pm I avoid caffeine and have peppermint or chamomile tea.

Another factor to consider is your oxygen levels when you are asleep. If you are not an oxygen wearer when you sleep you might be going a bit low. That could cause your headache. If you can, maybe check when you wake up at night with your oxymeter.

If this persists despite preventive measures, I'd talk to your doctor.

I see from your older posts that you are a CO2 retainer. Morning headaches that clear up once you've been awake for a while are a classic symptom of this. You don't mention if you are having any treatment for the CO2 retention so perhaps you should ask your consultant about this.

Thanks Annienell yes i am a retainer which is why i asked about the headaches i dont have any treatment for it just call 999 i was told and as for a consultant well if only the doctor would send me to one i would i have just moved so hoping the new doctor will be more helpful i have had to call 999 4 times this year yet get sent home after a few days with doctor only follow up when i wake up [if i can sleep] i have headaches dry mouth and very hard to breath i am told i snore big time which scares Tony when i stop for a few mins and it also wakes me for a few seconds so fingers crossed new doctor will help

Hi Dyson, I am curious as to who told you you are a CO2 retainer if you don't have a consultant. Did you have an ABG (arterial blood gas) which usually involves taking blood from an artery in your wrist? I believe that is the only way of diagnosing CO2 retention. And do you have other symptoms - very tired all the time, and liable to drop off to sleep any time you sit quietly for a few minutes.

You mention loud snoring too - your headaches and the snoring could also be a symptom of sleep apnoea. The treatment for that and CO2 retention are similar, but I think you really should ask to see a respiratory specialist to sort this out. I am a CO2 retainer and felt so much better once I started treatment with a bipap overnight - a real life-changer.

It is shocking that after four 999 calls this year, you still haven't been referred to a consultant. I do hope your new GP will be more helpful than your previous one.

Hi Jabber i was told i was a retainer by the hosptail after blood gases and yes i am so dam tired all the time also told them i get headaches and snore but after 2 days on cpap and 2 more days in i was sent home back to the doctor was told that they would sort me out a band to wear saying i was a retainer when i asked for it was told oh doctor never told us that asked for a ct scan never had one nope never got it only xray i am just worn out with it now i just want help and none seems to give it

As a retainer you really should be carrying an alert card, as it is dangerous to give you too much oxygen. You can still have oxygen - I'm on long-term oxygen therapy - but it needs to be carefully monitored.

Do go and see your new GP and ask (beg/demand, whatever it takes) to see a respiratory consultant urgently. I know it's difficult to insist when you're feeling so tired and unwell, but do try. I still can't get over four 999 calls this year!

Thanks jabber just been told jan 8th next year is next appointment for the new doctor told them i needed to see one NOW but nope they are not having it so will sit it out if i end up back in hosptail will not leave till i get what i need Eunice

Can't believe they put you on CPAP for a couple of days! Ridiculous! CPAP is a long term treatment not an on/off option.

Hello dyson how frustrating this is for you and unessesary, it's hard enough coping with the illness we shouldn't have to cope with doctors not doing their job properly. If I were you I would change my doctor. I wish you well dyson .dont give up ✋️😊

Thanks Stumpy it is very frustrating i have just moved so new doctor which i can not see till 8th jan and thanks to everyone giving me a push i now will push for what i Need and not give in to the words see me next time or try this in stead

Thanks mrsmummy i will give them a call tomorrow I have just got back from regirstering with a new doctor which is with in a small hosptail but got told 4 week wait to see the doctor just my luck so yes i will call help line tomorrow and thank you

All good sensible ideas. I agree with all that's been said - re hydration. Warm water with a slice of lemon add honey for a more relaxing drink. Try also Green Tea with Lemon. Green Tea is alleged to work on other parts of your body. But does take a bit of getting used to. Or as already stated Yorkshire De Caf, agree, best I've found.

Getting back to even more basics. When did you last change your pillows? Over time they tend to collapse and become less supportive allowing your neck to bend in ways it probably wasn't designed for. Try for a couple of nights with changing pillows, supporting your neck so the big muscles at the back don't get stretched or compressed.

Worth a try.

I was eventually referred to a consultant, and what a difference in my treatment. I have had 2 ct scans, and I'm given copies of the detailed report he sends my GP. I don't understand them, 🤣but at least he has got things moving. He has changed the antibiotics in my rescue pack, and on Friday I'm getting a portable liquid oxygen pack delivered.

Thank TRyfan i have started on the warm water and the yorkshire De caf also i have a new bed and pillows the pillows i change every 2mths but this time i also got a wedge and the bed is a water bed so warm and no dust
