Severe Anxiety!

Lynnelovessunshine profile image

I thought I had got on top of this issue but.... about 7 weeks ago it returned!!! I call it my wobbles!!! Psyching myself up to go anywhere even to work in the morning or home in the evening!!! I get shortness of breath, tight back, tight tummy and an obsessive need for the toilet!!! I always calm myself down and try to not let the issue stop me going anywhere!!!

I'm no worse health wise than I was 7 weeks ago but I did have a negative consultant appointment when I was told that she wasn't sure what else she could do for me and that I had chronic reflux and they changed my medication, I don't think it suited me so I've put myself back onto my old medication.

Although the thought of a lung transplant scared the #### out of me, to be told in Summer that I wasn't suitable means there is no contingency plan which is scary.

So I do think that the anxiety is a mixture of tablets, uncertainty and the winter!!! Does anyone else suffer with anxiety more in Winter?

On a positive note I am treating myself to Reiki once a week which I am loving.

Love to you all ❤️ Xx

Fran, 1 day they'll be something for us 😃

That's what I mean by lack of contingency, just tablets to keep you stable.

Big hugs ❤️ Xx

Thanks Lynne 💕

I see yes GP or specialist should provide..We know there are loads out there, a matter of trial and error I think..I seem to get more intolerant of side effects than I used to be..

Keep in touch xx

I think anxiety is totally understandable as you now know where you stand in terms of lung transplant and your lung disease.

Try and focus on how you are today and not worry about tomorrow. Small steps.

Have a good day. Xxxxx

Sorry can't agree, I am 68 yrs young and was told by the consultant at the Harefield Hospital in London in February that as I am over 65 I am to old to be considered for a Transplant and my Lungs are are so bad that they can't be eased in anyway to improve my situation. So, it's a case of excercises, puffers, inhalers etc and get on with it. Why should anxiety come into it ? I know my situation so I get on with it. Being sensible when the weather isn't good by staying in but otherwise get out when I can and enjoy life as much as possible. Yes I know it's difficult and blinking hard work as doing most thinks leaves me breathless but what's the alternative ? Not ready for the Pine box thank-you. So stop the negative thoughts, yes we all feel down at times as its only natural, but there are a lot of people worse off than me and you.

You are lucky to be able overcome things and get on..people react in different ways.

Learning to live with a chronic disease is a process..Not being accepted for a lung transplant can be hard if you have focused on it as a way out..Of course you are right in saying you must explore other means.

I think it is actually very brave to come out and talk about one’s anxiety on the forum..

Open up and you are already half-way there..

No easy answer, seeing worse than yourself is one, @2Greys has good suggestions..Giving yourself time is mine.

You are right sassy. People are beginning to realise the extent of the problem of anxiety and depression for those with COPD and are seeking to identify the best way forward to help.

"The prevalence of depression and anxiety in people with COPD is high, although these comorbidities are often undiagnosed, untreated, or undertreated. There is a need to identify efficacious treatments for depression and anxiety in people with COPD"

Anxiety is not a pleasant experience. Like many of us, I have been there. The secret, for me, is learning to relax. You sound like you have a busy and maybe, hectic lifestyle, with a full-time job along with the pressures that it can bring. You need to find a way relax, to switch off, even if only for half an hour and you need to make the time to do that.

Meditation, painting (with water colours), listening to relaxing music or an audio book (use headphones so you can block out any distractions).

Remember not to get frustrated when find you can no longer do certain things like you used to be able to do and concentrate on what you can now do. Like me, you are very fortunate to be able to work and have a job which lends itself to the feeling of "being normal" and keeping you active, but try not over reach your capabilities, pace yourself, or you will suffer the consequences, which can quickly go from disappointment with yourself to a state of anxiety.

I'm not normally a particularly anxious person, I tend to live for the moment as far as possible, but in winter I do get anxious because of all the horrible chest bugs flying about. It's well known that anxiety & depression lowers the immune system, making us more vulnerable to infection, so it's important to tackle the problem and not dismiss it. You're not alone with this problem, Lynne, and talking about it is the first step. Thank you for confiding in us, it's brave of you.

I did write a long spiel about making the most of my life and appreciating the fact that there are others worse than me but the gremlins have stolen my reply 😂

You seem to me to have a very healthy attitude, if I may say so. You're trying to overcome your anxiety, not sitting back & letting it take over, and are obviously a strong woman who has been (temporarily I hope) undermined by horrible circumstances. Yes, it's obvious there's always someone worse off than ourselves, but when other people tell me that I find it rather irritating, because knowing it doesn't actually help one's individual situation does it? Just because someone else is in a worse position doesn't stop you wanting to be in a better one!

Hi Lyn, I follow science daily, there is a medical part in it and, all the latest on lots of things, in the back numbers, it tells of lots of lung problems. I don't want to get any ones hopes up but if you look on New Atlas also they seem to put lots of things medical in their stories.I tweet lots from these and medical science.

some of my tweets at hathaway45 and tomhathaway01 there are NEW things that are being done. If you look up these you will I think feel a lot better with some helpful

things and where to read up on anything that is printed I.E source of the story.

think positive there are lots of things happening with DNA/RNA and all things are moving very fast in the medical fields. Get the stories and ref.and show them to who is treating you. as I said things are moving fast and things you can't imagine are happening so fast in stem cells etc. with these they can grow nearly any part of the body. good luck I'm sure if you go armed with some of the things in those two daily emails you'll get better results. good luck and try to keep happy

It's not just people with cop d that suffer from anxiety, and depression. I have broncicatasis, and friends with Ipf they also suffer anxiety too.

I have found that hemp oil, from Amazon, helps a lot of people with anxiety. It doesn't remove it but lessens it.

Well done for being brave enough to discuss it openly.
