Had my Lung Funtion Test and Blood Gases, (results on the 4th Dec.),

Although I've done them before, I was sure I knew what I was doing...Errrm, No, It's all Changed, Enter The Tube, Put Mouthpiece in Mouth, Peg on Nose...OK, When I Say Breathe Normal, says, Elliot, a Shutter will Block you, carry on and Breathe Normal....With my eyes streaming and Saliva escaping from my extended lips, maybe a bit of snot (can I say that) my head at exploding point, I had to raise my arms in the air, to tell Elliot I was not happy and I was spitting out the mouthpiece........Had to do it 4 times, Oh My, Torture....Then onto the Spirometer with the Graph that I can see but don't understand, again , Mouthpiece and Peg, But no Shutters to surprise/shock me, had to do this one 5 times before a Match connected. Elliot was very Professional, but didn't hold my hand, like I wanted him to, he never said, Your ok, go and put your Lippy on...I did ask " Is it all ok", he said, " can't say" "Why" I said....he said " The Results take time" ... I do Know that my Blood gases are up from last time. So, that's good news........Will know on the 4th if I "Could" have Lung Reduction? or Stay on the Transplant List....Love, Carolina XXX

Carolina,Quite an adventure for us with little lungs left isn't it! the Spirometry stuff is arduous but that is because they have to have i think 3 similar results on each measurement to form an accurate picture of capacities and outputs.Invariably this takes several attempts normally accompanied by "go on just a bit more"words of encouragement.I am sure that the Perspex cubicle test, akin to Houdini's escapology all be it without the shackles,is just a bit of fun for the technicians and side bets are taken as to how long before we all potentially pass out.Hopefully your results will reveal that your exercise regime is doing you well and that you will be fit enough for LVR in whatever manner,be it surgery or the less invasive valves or coils.Either way we will have had an experience that not many will have on their 'bucket list'.........love and best wishes..........skis and scruffy xxx

Gracias Carino y Scruffita,

Yes, True, never thought of it as a Bucket List, but I shall now add it to mine.......Oh Dear, I've no room left on the list..Done it all. Ha Ha.

It wasn't so bad, after the event, had a lot worse Discomfort. Yes, Houdini Describes the Tube accurately. I would love my Lung Capacity to have increased, I do know the it can reverse if you exercise well !!! Just wishing. If I was Younger, then I know I would go for Gold, Alas, the Age thing doesn't Reverse, not in our Lifetime....Sods Law, it will in 10 years...Love to you and Scruffs xxxxx

Hello Carolina.

I dread those spirometry tests too. Especially if I get the enthusiastic fellow that feels like he has to bellow in my ear to keep me pushing the air of of my lungs. At one point he began to rap me on the shoulder. At which point I shot him my "I can melt your skin with my gaze" look. 😠

I'm sorry it was so unpleasant. I sincerely hope you can keep your place on the list. How long have you been waiting now?

Hi caspa,

Thanks for that, After the event, and thinking on It, I have experienced a lot Worse discomfort. So Upwards & Onwards, I shall have a word with my Consultant on the 4th, ask is she has experienced the Houdini Tube. Doubt it. Take care. XXX

Haha good story, I can picture it..

Hope you have good results x

Elliot is a fibber. They can see the results as they are doing it and they have your last results in front of them on the computer.

I howled with laughter at your description and all of the responses. I flatly refuse to allow them to give me ‘encouragement ‘ whilst I am doing the tests. When I sit down I look at them, they look at their notes and say ‘ oh yes, just tell you the breathing pattern we want and when to start then Shut Up!

I bet they draw sraws as to who has to put up with me when they see my name on the list!

On the other hand, if they just let me get on with it I give them 3 nice comparisons for each one and we are done and dusted in no time.

I hope your results show an improvement.xx
