Pain
I was diagnosed with gastritis some years ago after being tested by having a tube down my throat. My doctor put me on Lansoprazole and told me to take them for a year. I stopped taking them after 7 months as they were not doing much good and went back to taking Gaviscon, I did have spasms of the pain and was often sick around 9 pm for several nights on the run. Now on Omeprazole and awaiting results of a scan after spending a couple of nights in hospital. Stomach improved after eating low fat foods. Hope you have been given some medication that is helping relieve your pain.
Had gastritis a number of times ,. It's hard to describe what you go through.
Touch wood it's been several years since the last bout.....During which time I lived on mashed potatoes and rice pudding & bread & butter.
.I found whenever my stomach was going ""off "". I started to crave things like
Pickled onions ,oranges & lemons......so I became very careful of what I ate.
It worked most times. Am on Esomeprazole with the occasional Ranitidine and of
course Gaviscon.
Jo.
I empathise with you. I have IBS and small intestinal bacterial overload and the pain is like labour pains. It's so disruptive to your life. The SIBO is caused by the antibiotics and PPIs, so I am trying so hard to wean off the PPIs.
I hope they help you though with gastritis.

Hi coughdrop what is SIBO I am interested because after 4yrs of gruelling torture of gulett pain and vomiting mucus it has now been diagnosed as jackhammer esophogus and other than muscle relaxers meds there is nothing they can do, I have taken a lot of ppi s somewhat you have mentioned and I’ve taken a lot of abs too because the mucus from my gullet aspires into my lung so a vicious circle I’m offered morphine for pain relief but don’t really like taking it because of constipation .....etc thanks x
Apologies for the delay in replying - have been away this weekend.
SIBO stands for Small Intestinal Bacterial Overload. Basically the bacteria which would normally live in your colon has migrated to the smal intestines. Not helped by the gut biome being disrupted because of the abs we have to take (although ironically abs are used to kill off the intestinal bacteria). The PPIs are problematic because the acid which helps to deter the bacteria migrating is reduced by the PPIs.

Hi coughdrop thanks for replying, I am having a traumatic time at the moment have been for nearly two years of vomiting mucus thick sometimes gel like sometimes white my gut aches when I’ve eaten and my breathing’s compromised, if I need to move my bowels is horrendous I think I’m going to stop breathing ! I’ve had camera down to look in esophogus a few years ago but not much reflux nut yet they put me on 20g per day it made little difference and now I’m on 40mg per day and it makes no difference, but it is so plaguing my life because I keep getting infections because of all the Muke a rat race and sometimes so painful like trapped air blocking the main airway, terrifying especially first thing for the first 2 or 3 hours... xx
Thank you all.
