Morning all, don't post very often but is there anybody that is on oxygen and gets the enchanted rate of PIP, really need some advice as they put me on standard rate PIP last year and now I've got to have oxygen most of the time and I'm wondering if now I'm entitled to the enhanced rate . Look forward to hearing from you

Hi

Unless your mobility and/ or care needs have changed, using supplementary oxygen may not be a good enough reason.

As it would be a new claim which could down as well as up.

I would speak to the BLF Benefits advisor 03000 030 555

I received higher mobility, middle care DLA. before using Ambulitory oxygen.

Are you definitely going to be defiant??

That will definitely not enchant them to consider an enhanced claim.

Hi Beethoven,

I would suggest getting expert advice (Welfare Rights on your local area) as O2 and cooking is not a good match - and part of the mobility component is about ability to cook a meal. I don't know for sure but it would seem possible that you MAY be entitled to a higher payment

Good luck and remember ... applying is free (as is the expert advice)

Hi I've just gone from Higher rate Mobility with DLA to Standard rate PIP for Mobility and nothing for the Daily Living component. I'm very shocked at this and will be appealing. I am on o2 all the time. I got 2 points for not being able to cook with my oven and only able to use a microwave and 2 for needing help in the shower and 2 for needing help dressing and undressing. The total of 6 points is not enough, you need 8.

Cooking a meal is not part of mobility. There are 2 parts to mobility. The first planning and following a journey I scored no points for Moving around I scored 8 because they said I could walk 20 metres unaided.

I don't think using supplementary oxygen is unaided and anyone who is on it will agree.

Does anyone out there know if it is considered unaided?

Remember that you also need the confidence to do things. I am not confidant enough to go out alone when i am not well. So you need to put things about that. Also i found being in crowded places frightening. I worry about getting knocked over or not being able to breath. The weather also plays a big part. Cant go out if it is windy or cold. You need to consider parking if not near then cant go. The medication can also affect your muscle strenght so again there may be times when you are not strong enough to be monile. Hope this triggers thought process.
