Oxygen Concentrator tube

Hi, I realise this has been discussed in posts before but was interested in any recent experiences.

My Mum has an oxygen concentrator with the subsequent piping. It is now a trip hazard (she ended up in hospital last week) and needs fixing out of her way as much as possible. I have Googled how this is done. My query is: do the suppliers do this if requested and/or who do I need to harass to get it done before she falls over again? Thanks, hope everyone is coping and as ok as possible. Regards to all

Hi I never had to ask for it too be done I was told it was health and safety issue be cause I use a walking aid so Bayswater piped it in

Hi Dorothy I’m also having problems tripping over the concentrator tubing and wondered if you could explain how it’s piped in.

Hi the tubing is taken along door frames and skirting board to each room then they fit a switch that you turn to each room your going to a cannula hangs from a different area in each room

Hi Phil

Your oxygen supplier will do it if you request it . they should do an assessment and advise you on the best layout to suit your purposes They pin the piping to the walls and take it into different rooms The piping ends in a small socket in different rooms and all you have to do is to plugin wherever you are .You'll have a selector installed to switch it to whichever room you choose I think that the only room they won't pipe to is the kitchen for safety reasons.

Hope this helps but your oxygen supplier should have all the info you need

Many thanks for explaining that. I just thought you had to live with trying to trail 40 foot of tube around the house and constantly tripping up myself and everyone else in the house !.

Hi, thanks for all the answers, that all makes sense to me and we have one of the Community Matrons little helpers coming round tomorrow so I will start the request with her; the Community Matron has been good so far. Also, Mums Flat is not huge and the walls will be easy to pipe through so should be all doable.

The pipe was wrapped round her ankle when I found her on the floor last week. It’s another of those ‘oh, of course that was going to happen why didn’t I do something about it already?’ moments that seem to happen. It’s such an obvious trip hazard I would fall over it if it was under my feet.

I have the problem with tube from the oxygenator

My Supplier is Liquide Air. They have always been great, in my previous home, and now this Bungalow, They have channelled my Tubes to my Living Room & Bedroom with enough length for me to go to the Wet Room( Shower) and from living room to Kitchen...I have a small mobile concentrator to go out with. call your Supplier First thing Tomorrow, they should act Immediately..

Strange but true! After writing the above post I was off to see Mum and outside my house was a ‘Liquide Air’ van and out jumped the really helpful guy who goes round my Mums house to swap cylinders etc so I asked him about piping. He said the respiratory team or prescriber will request assessment and he will go round, check out what needs doing, which he does already as he has been over Mums loads, then do the work.

I went round Mums, phoned the respiratory nurse team, about 30 mins later Liquide Air called to say they are coming Monday to assess the flat.

Then the Community Matrons deputy came over and gave Mum a good going over too.

It was very hard to get in the system and get the right care but today it was very worth it.

I have to say that our Community Matron kicks ass and I am very glad she is in our corner. Even if I cannot get a word in when she’s on one. Haha

Regards to all and I hope anyone struggling with the care system can take some hope that it is possible to get stuff done it would seem. Occasionally.

Thanks Mrs. Mummy. It was indeed and I let the Community Matron know and the long suffering pharmacy staff over the road know too how much I appreciate them trying to help and the work they put in. Have a good one 😁
