Looking for any information on this drug, my husband was recently prescribed this to help break up the mucus in his lungs.
It has really upset his stomach in and out of the toilet all day and the most awful wind. He has stopped taking it as was getting to the point where he wouldn't go out of the door.
Anyone else had these sort of symptoms ?

I am on this drug and had some stomach problems initially with it but they subsided after a while however they were not as severe as it sounds like your husbands were. I know other members are on a liquid version rather than a capsule version and I seem to remember them saying that is better stomach wise I’m sure someone who knows more than me will be along shortly to help x
I’ve been taking it for three years never had any trouble with it.
Pete took the capsules for a short time to thin the mucous but he just sat bringing up the stuff all day. He no longer takes it and just uses his Mucoclear via nebuliser. Xxxxx
I couldn't take it as it gave me bronchospasm as thinning the mucus didn't suit me. But I didn't have the kind of problems you are talking about.
I use this drug. Have found it really good.
Being a ratherchildish individual my wind causes much hillarity.
Nope, I've had no problems and I've an extremely sensitive upper digestive tract, acid reflex etc but carbocysteine is fine
I'd be quite surprised if his problems were caused by this medication. P

I have been on this drug for a few years with no issues. But I do remember when the doctor first prescribed it and him mentioning the possibility of stomach issues. It might be best to speak to your doctor about it soon.
So sorry he's having difficulties and I hope he's more comfortable now.

I couldn't cope with it the first time I was prescribed it. It felt like I was coughing up liquid all day. I don't recall stomach problems being as severe as your husband's. I had to take it again recently and because I had problems in the past we decided to half the dose. Maybe have a break for a week then try at 1 three times a day instead of 2. Otherwise it may be better to ask about alternatives. Yes

Hi Cooper 101, I have been taking this med which I find very Good to keep the Mucus to a Liquid, I use Boxes of Tissues for this reason, constant runny nose. No congestion in my Lungs. I did have a Bowel problem at the beginning ( 5 Years), this settled down, I'm not saying it took all this time, but I think with all meds you have to give them time to settle into your system. Shouldn't stop it without seeing a Doctor. The wind, depends on what I eat. Onions make me trump a lot. Don't let him Suffer, go see the Doctor/Consultant. XXX Carolina .
An old med which is given for congestion..Gave me heartburns I am better off on steroids to dry out the mucus, thinning it out makes me cough more and irritates my throat..
But I had it with meals 3 times a day.

I am on Carbocisteine 3No times daily 2No tabs. Yes it seems to give you wind but tummy upsets not experienced. Speak to his GP ASAP as the principle of a mucus thinner is good and gets unwanted phlegm out which provides a breading ground for infections. There are other similar products available that may be more agreeable to the tummy. On the other hand there maybe something that counteracts the tummy problem, but do try to take it or similar especially with winter on it's way. He may also try a little gadget from Clement Clarke International CM20 2TT. It's a small tube that allows one to "huff" out which in turn encourages coughing & out comes the mucus, boy does it get it out.

Physios told me to try and avoid coughing, will only clear mucus that is in upper part of airway but will drive mucus in lower parts further down. Huffing is the recommended way to clear. Having said that I nearly always end up coughing anyway.
