So Glad I changed GP's

Last year had so many recurring infections, in fact was on antibiotics from October to January asked to be referrred to consultant , No! I had asked for the last 3 years as was struggling could only ever see nurse even if made appointment to see Dr. got there and was down for nurse. Then hospitalised in February with pneumonia and sepsis, in May still going downhill nurse again whom I asked about the follow up xray after sepsis her words oh you've had sepsis, couldn't believe she hadn't read any notes. I have life long allergic/brittle asthma with copd, asked again for referral. Made big decision, in June changed GP's best thing I did so easy to get appointments everyone is so polite and helpful and have already seen a consultant and undergoing tests. I urge anyone who is having long standing problems with their GP's to do homework and ask other people what their surgeries are like, so happy I changed in fact all the family has moved with me.

Janet your positive attitude and the actions you have taken are to be applauded. It must have been quiet a leap of faith to dump your ineffective Gp and thankfully you have come up trumps.good luck in the future,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,skis and scruffy cat x

Thank you so much it was a risk but I had asked loads of people for advice, I still can't believe that I can get a same day appointment. I put this on as I read so much of the problems others have with their docs and it might encourage others to enquire if there is better in their area x

Amen! I totally agree with you if you're having problems get the heck out! Find a new doctor there's plenty of them out there that are good.

We changed doctors last November after 55 years after . chasing a prescription for emergency meds with pharmacist and being told by surgery that my request had been denied. Went and signed up with new GP the same day. Was asked if I had supply of emergency meds, essential for people with COPD.

Glad you feel like me it's a revolution to realise that there are some great GP's out there, I think the receptionists are a good guide, new ones are so polite and helpful.

Trouble is I can't easily change my doctor. I'm in no other catchment area. Technically I have choice of 4 doctors, in practice I'm lucky to get an appointment when required.

I went on the NHS website and they showed me several GP's whose catchment I was in, I was amazed at how many there were, ones that I thought would be out of area.

I checked and the boundaries were very clear. I was quite shocked that there was no choice unless a surgery decided to add someone just beyond their range.

Good on you sadly we have no such choice we now only have two practices in our town and because of this you are allocated to the one whose boundary you are in and to be honest they are both not that good and almost impossible to get a appointment ,We are not aloud even to go to the next village lol its becoming like we are under dictators

Gosh sorry for you I just went on the NHS website and they showed me lots of practices, ones in the next town that were in my catchment. If they are more than a certain mileage some will take you on but warn you they can't make home visits, I found this out from a friend whose a Nurse Practioner several miles from me, never thought to try hers
