Scar on lung.

First I have heart and lung conditions amongst other condition.

In the 90s I was diagnosed with Polycythemia and a scar on the lung, just a scar as far as I know.

The Polycythemia hospital specialist said it was just the high point of normal. I was relieved as the treatment is not great, That is never mentioned any more. Although Chest Clinic said it showed in my bloods.

A scar on the lung, is more the point in this post - My GP told me I had a scar on lung after a chest x ray and chest specialist also told my I had a scar on lung.

No mention of this in medical records - COPD or Emphysema are mentioned.

So I googled scar on lung and I get Cystic Fibrosis - I think I can discount that.

It also mentions Fibrosis - I never see that term on my GP record I can access on line.

Question is What is a "Scar on the lung" and is it a condition of it;s own, or does it fit under the COPD umbrella?

I believe there can be many reasons for a scar on your lungs. Many are not serious and the result of previous lung traumas such as infections, childhood tb pneumonia ,etc.let us hope that this is so in your case Ern077............regards skis and scruff

Thank's skis and scruff.

I was first diagnosed with Emphysema and Angina - I was under the care of the Chest Clinic at the local hospital. I did smoke at the time, not many and not for that long. Came to my attention when consultant copied a letter to me - "He continues to smoke although he knows he has a scar on his lung" - My GP confirmed that when I went to see him.. I am talking now back in the 90s and stopped smoking some 15 years ago....I am 99% sure my current GP does not know about the scarring.

Fibrosis means scarring. Pete has sarcoidosis which causes scarring on the lungs and in airways etc.

Ask your doctor or consultant to explain clearly what it means.

Wishing you well. Xxxx

i think the problem is I used to have a doctor who checked me up once a month, he really was good and if my breathing was poor, he would stay even after closing to sort me on a nebuliser - He did his best to keep me out of hospital. However he retired and the monthly check up stopped. It was I was referred to Cardiology and I left the care of the chest clinic. What a mistake that was IMO.. I recently moved to a village and my doctors is about 500 yards away. I just don't think Cardiology or my new doctor are aware of the scar - I am going to take the letter from the chest clinic to the doctors and my next visit to cardiology in December - Someone must know.. Cheers.

My previous husband Bob (who died in 2003) had TB scarring in his lungs but didn't realise he'd had TB in the 60s until doctors told him in the 90s when they were investigating his severe COPD.

I have not had TB - I was a smoker years ago and had many lung infections, so I guess the COPD caused the scar on my lung.

I was diagnosed with a scar about the same time I was told I had 'emphysema ' - It was never suggested I could get cancer. In fact I am puzzled because on my online medical records, there is no mention of scarring. I still have the letter to my doctor copied to me, that I did have a scar on my lung. it's as though it never existed, but it did and are not reversible.

I had just been going through the letters that were copied to myself. And the letter from the Chest Specialist said (" he continues to smoke 15 cigarettes a day even though I have told him he has a scar on his lung") - My GP had also told me I had a scar on my lung. Nothing in records.

Also radiographer told me I had long lungs, i also would like to find out about that.

If that's not enough I was told I had 'polycythemia (vera?) - My chest specialist also said I had polycythemia, he thought ( secondary )

The whole point is the scar on my lung and the polycythemia seem to have gone of the radar. Yes I am taking letters to doctor to see what she says, medical records are never complete.
