Coughing day and night

I've had a cough for over a year recently it's got so bad I'm not getting a proper nights sleep constantly coughing through the night every 5 to 10 mins it's been like this on a night for over a week now feeling really tired and it's really getting me down,I don't look forward to night time knowing what's approaching,I also cough frequently through the day bring a lot of mucus,seems to be green to yellow in colour,plus my left eye as started seeing wavey vision and a week ago my left eye started with wavey vision then best I can describe is half of my vision in my left eye went totally cloudy and I couldn't see at all out of this eye,I really panicked after 5 mins it went away and I could see ok again,this happens every week to two weeks,I've booked in for an eye test next week,see what happens.

Hi David. Coloured sputum is usually a sign of infection so I suggest you make an appointment with your GP.

Hi yes I'm 48 been smoking 8 years now I was wondering if it could be related to my symptoms

How many cig a day? You must quit. Yes, these symptoms could be related to smoking, you have to visit your doctor as soon as you can to be properly diagnosed, don´t way any longer

I the same problem as you it turned out to be Scarcodosis then after 6yrs it went the only treatment available was Steroids

I also have this happen with my eyes but I've had cataracts removed from both eyes and I thought it might have something to do with that, I think I too will make an appointment for a check, better to be safe. Good luck with yours.

I assume they put in a lens implant when you had your cataracts removed and if so there is a capsule that is left behind which can cause some issues down the road but the good news is they can use a laser to fix it if that is the problem.

I have a lung condition (sarcoidosis) and produce a lot of phlegm every day. I wonder if the following would help you. To clear my lungs of phlegm every morning and before bed I do Active Cycle of Breathing technique (ACBT) which was taught to me by a physiotherapist to cough it up and then I don't cough during the day or when in be. If I don't do ACBT at nighttime my lungs "rattle" and can't lie down.

There is lots on the internet, especially Youtube, teaching Active Cycle of Breathing Technique (ACBT); I was taught by a physiotherapist to do it lying down on each side but it can be done sitting up.

It is very easy.

If ACBT doesn't help to 'get up' the phlegm, you could try sleeping sitting up, propped up by pillows, as I used to do do.

Also, I don't go anywhere without a packet of Fisherman's Friends lozenges which take away the tickle if I do feel I need to cough.

Thank you it is 5.27 am and I’ve been awake coughing all night again I’m so drained,I will definitely have a look on YouTube and give it a go.This is day 1,gonna have to stop smoking I just hope I’ve not left it to long.Thank you for your reply.

You need to stop smoking NOW, and get to see your GP pronto.

Good advice above - try sleeping in a comfortable chair or propped up with pillows/cushions.

Was that a typo? I've never heard of anyone starting smoking at 40.

Thank you ,it’s 5.35am been up all night again,I’ve got an appointment lined up at doctors see what happens,day 1 definitely stopping smoking I’ve got to do it,and no I did start smoking at 40 unfortunately,hopefully this time next week will have not been smoking and will have more answers from doctors appointment,thank you for you reply.
