Don't you nice people forget to get your flu vaccine rumour has it this year's flu is going to be on par with the 1918 Spanish flu that killed more than WW1 what they do not say is in those dark days we had no flu jab, no antibiotics yet only two million died.

Thanks I'm off to the doctors at four so will get mine there.xxx love Bernadette 😳 xxx

hello Anthony. I got mine. I do wonder if these tales are being circulated because there has been generally a very low take up amongst the vulnerable and older people. I have noticed that there were far fewer at my surgery waiting for their jabs than in previous years and the nurse told me that they were having problems getting people to attend. You are quite right about 1918 and no flu jabs or abs. Let's hope that those of us who have had it will bring some herd immunity to the population.

I rang surgery yesterday to ask if I was eligible for flu and pneumonia cos of my lungs and I'm only 61. They said they'd all the doc and to ring again tomorrow. Pneumonia only available for spleen probs. I quoted NHS website which says chronic respiratory diseases too. Grrr

I got the flu jab for asthma before I got bronchiectasis and get it for both now. The the chest clinic said I had to have the pneumonia jab too... all on the NHS ... you have to make sure you get both!

Thanks for reminder. I've never had a flu jab before as I'm allergic to eggs. Apparently Flublok is egg-free. Does anyone know about this? Does it work as well as the regular sort? I'm seeing my consultant next week and thinking to ask him about it.

Thanks

Rachel :-)

Been told definitely yes to flu, pneumonia under discussion but by the time I go next Thursday they will know!! I feel a fight coming on ...

in reply to Hokeycokey

I know the feeling too well early this year I had my pneumonia jab as my respiratory team said every 5 years, not 10 as most surgeries go on a rule of thumb I often get the feeling they begrudge you that protection.

Call the practice manager, the chest clinic etc You fight... ask why I automatically got and you can't!

Good luck... it can't be Ok for some and not for others .... that would make it a postcode lottery! Please share your outcome.

My surgery have told me that you only get one pneumonia job and it last a lifetime. Is this information wrong? Love Bernadette 😳 xxx

in reply to Damon1864

Hi, Bernadette, yes your surgery is wrong or according to my oxygen team, they are it depends on the strength of your immune system and whatever ails you? Yes most people get away with one shot their entire lives most on this site may need a booster every 5 years anything medical bothering you talk it over with the nurse or doctor

I've had two Pneumonia jabs, 5 years apart. Shortly after the 2nd I was rushed into hospital with Pseudomonas + Pneumonia. Ended up with Sepsis. Unconscious for best part of 3 days.

in reply to

yes not pleasant at all, I still have a pseudonoma after my first bout of pneumonia now any infection I have a sputum sample is sent off and wait for the results, as I have access to my doctor's record online and take my antibiotics if the doctor leaves a comment to that way.

I rang the surgery this morning and I'm confirmed for both on Thursday provided they have pneumonia in stock! Result without a fight!!
