Hi Jeff, I hope you will be ok. Do call the ambulance if you feel too bad.

Your doctor should have told you to leave at least a two hour gap between any antibiotics and antacid or other stomach medicines. Mostly because the stomach medicine stops the abs working.

I take lanzaprozole and it's a right juggling act fitting in the doses when I am taking abs 3 times a day.

Hi i did leave big gap between pill and antibiotic.

Been horrendous really BUT am going to see gp about it.

On pills it says speical percautions if have lung dieases or immunty issues both i have yet doctor never said out about that.

Do hope am going to be ok as xon't want to have to phone ambulance.

Don't get any easy really dose it

No it doesn't Jeff and you have so many things to contend with. Why don't our doctors tell us about these things. I am convinced that it was inter drug reactions that caused my AF. I hope you are alright. Do keep us up to date.

in reply to

Hi littlepom this loads of things can cause AF even virues and immunty issues.

Guess if told us all things would defo get willies.

But agree should be tad more carefull when perscribing.

Hi Littlepom. I think it may be worth checking that out with your doctor as I believe that it only refers to antacids like Gaviscom which can absorb the medication. I don't think that it applies to proton pump inhibitors such as lanzoprazole which purely inhibit the production of acid rather than soaking it up. I may be wrong, so check it out. I take Pantoprazole and my doc says it's fine with my antibiotic, but not to take Gaviscon etc until 2 hrs have elapsed after taking the ab.

Here is a list of medicines that can react with Lanzoprazole and only one specific antibiotic is mentioned. .......................................................................................

Tell your doctor if you're taking these medicines before your start lansoprazole treatment:

digoxin (a heart medicine)

anti-fungal medicines such as itraconazole, ketoconazole or posaconazole

methotrexate (treats psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis)

HIV medicines

phenytoin (an anti-epilepsy medicine)

rifampicin (an antibiotic)

blood thinning medicines, such as clopidogrel

fluvoxamine (an antidepressant)

my GP ( for once) did tell me not to take the lansaprozole within 2 hrs of cipro. I also take dygoxin. I think it's better to spread meds out anyway.

Hi Jeff,

As Littlepom says you should not take antacids at the same time as ABs. I normally have to stop taking Simvistatin, Esomeprazole & Ranitidine tablets when I am on ABs, do check the information leaflets that come with all your meds and see what they advise.

I do find that taking pro-biotic drinks while I am on ABs does help reduce a lot of the indigestion and other side effects of the ABs.

Hi cheers i did read leaflet and thought doctor was privy to it and was ok

Clearly i was wrong and just go's to show how intrested gp's are really

Hi jeffajaxsmith, I'm still wondering why the numerous courses of antibiotics aren't perhaps doing there job, as I'm on long term omeprazole, I didn't know that there's a chance they could be cancelled out by stomach medication, I'm sorry you're feeling so unwell, if you've got any doubts yep A&E could well be a visit, if not definitely the NHS direct and to talk your concerns over, but even now because of your information I'm a little wiser, hence months of antibiotics and not curing my on going skin problems, which in itself is a pain in the rear if you get my drift, good luck and hopefully you'll feel better soon, thanks

Hi cheers yer as well as being ill am quite angry as this as set me back again

Doctor not once told me i should not be on antibiitcs and be taking them given issues.

I surspected somethibg was wrong when i had infection come back 3 curses of antibiotcs got rid of THEN bang today was full on guess like silant infection.

Anyway am going to be giving doctor it monday.

AS to my condition infections could be down to immunty igm issues i have and or lung narcosis.

Hope your skin condition inproves given what the say about antacids and antibiitcs.

Am still in shock little worse for ware tho and trying to manage my stress anxerty from events so have to excuse me if replys bit quick short

Its never ending is it JAS and I'm so sorry you are having even more to deal with on top of everything else. It seems like everything we are prescribed and advised to take medicine wise can have so many effects on other medications. You would have thought your doctor should've given you some advice though with mixing antiacids and AB's. I've been taking Rennie's recently along with my AB's and now I know why I'm probably not feeling so good. Will be ringing doctors Monday.

Hope you get things sorted - I mean you really deserve a break!

Take care and regards to your Dad.

in reply to SquirrelsHolt

I think doctors well GP just don't care or mistakes would not happen.

My lung doctor going to be told i want my igm antibidy injections espcily if my gp is going to try kil me.

Would not belive how ill made me SO gp ent doctor is going to know too.

Hope you get your issues sorted and glad i was able here to poit out issues with AB and Antacid's
