Hi there I recently collapsed at work after fighting with what I thought was just a badcold.was admitted to hospital where after tests and x-rays were done was diagnosed with community acquired pneumonia. I've been home now for 7 days & have never felt so lethargic. I want back to work but don't think I'm fit enough.how long til I'm back to normal? Any input would be appreciated

Patient information

explain to patients with community-acquired pneumonia that after starting treatment their symptoms should steadily improve, although the rate of improvement will vary with the severity of the pneumonia, and most people can expect that by:

1 week: fever should have resolved

4 weeks: chest pain and sputum production should have substantially reduced

6 weeks: cough and breathlessness should have substantially reduced

3 months: most symptoms should have resolved but fatigue may still be present

6 months: most people will feel back to normal

Hi I was admitted in November last year with the same thing. As I had. Had the pneumonia jag it was not as bad as it would of been if I Had not of had the jag. I was in hospital for 3 days. Was put on abs steroids and pain killers then discharged with a week worth of the same Meds. I had a chest X-ray in December and my chest was clear. I didn't feel really poorly with it. Also found out that I had gallstones too. But they won't do anything for that due to my lung function. Hope you feel better soon. Xx

It took me months to get over pneumonia but eventually I got some energy back. You may have returned to work a bit too soon so don't overdo things! Hope you feel better soon. xx Moy

Sorry, I misread your post and thought you had gone back already. Do you have to go back or can you give yourself another week? You need to take some time to recover as it can really knock the stuffing out of you. Take care. xx Moy

Yes it sure has I can't believe how weak I feel Moy.but on other hand I need to get back to work xx

I had it years ago went back to work 4 weeks later lasted 3 days and was off for about 2 months...it takes time to recover from and rest is what you need right now..i hope you feel better soon xxx Angie

Please don't go back because you feel guilty. Your health is more in portent. I am surprised you haven't been given a sick line for a couple of months. Xx

short staff or not you come first to be fair ..you will only be off sick longer and take longer to heal xxxx
