Changed inhalers

Hi i was on Spiriva for copd but have now been changed to the Red Anoro Ellipta i don't find it works as good as Spiriva has anyone else been changed to this.

If it's no good go back to your doc and get changed back or was there a reason for the change in the first place xxx

Hi its on a trial i was just wondering if i need to give it longer than two months and what others thought of it against the Spiriva. It might just be a case of what I'm used to. Xx

I use Spiriva and I had it changed at my request as I was on Incruse and it didn't work for me personally hence the change..if your not happy get it changed back to your original xx

Liz,Spiriva is what they call a Lama medication(long acting muscarinic antagonist) whilst Anoro falls into the Lama/Laba medications which are a combination of medicines.It may well be that your consultant feels the long term management of your condition could benefit from this change,However as Angiecbr and others state it is always best to go back to your GP/consultant if things do not appear to be working for you.Different strokes for different folks as they say.good luck and hope all is resolved.......skis

Thankyou for the mention skis and a very well penned post from yourself as per...im heading down later in the week to a place called Druscillas it's near Hastings going to see a friend there called Lilo who has copd also and lives on Dr Pepper he had an op some months back and his scar wasn't healing very well but he's on the mend now and it's knitting back together xxx

Ive been on Anoro for years and recently tried Spiolto which I believe has one of the same drugs as Spiriva (Tiotropium). The Anoro has a gentle and steady onset of action whereas the Spiolto (and I presume the Spiriva too) act very rapidly and are extremely well absorbed. I couldn't tolerate the Tiotropium and had to stop rather dramatically but I can see how very effective it probably is. As someone has already said on here, they are not similar enough to be compared like for like.

Clare,i am now on Spiolto,it is a combination of both Tiotropium/Oladaterol but it delivers a very fine mist which is more effectively absorbed by my lungs.It works very well for me but as you say everybody reacts differently.There are no steroids as far as i am aware in Spiolto and because i do not have excessive inflamation or mucus perhaos that is why my new consultant is trialing me on it.regards......skis

I'm sure you'll do very well on it - I'm rather jealous! For me, it was like breathing in the most noxious substance that anyone could possibly imagine - and to think that I even considered persevering! My consultant wrote to me today and seems unsurprised that I've had side effects although it's the first time I've reacted to any of my inhalers over a 5 year period. He wants me to trial a steroid one too when this episode has well and truly settled.

i must admit i do cough a bit when i use it,but its only 2 puffs first thing in the morning and apart from my ambulatory o2 and my respite ventolin i do not have to take any other meds so i am one of the lucky ones on here given the severity of my Emphysema,well done for persevering but as you say no point in continuing its use if its making you poorly,good luck with future trials.........skisx

Yes I was on spiriva and Airflusal and I was doing ok but coughing with phelm went to the doctor about a different issue and he gave me the Anoro Ellipta as free trail saying it was now gold standard. I really liked it as it was one inhaler once a day. No problems with it.

I've never tried Anoro, but I think 2 months is plenty long enough to know if something works for you or not. Just let your doctor know and he will probably change you back.

Hi, I got changed from Spiriva to Bretaris Genuair which I find little or no different.Ask GP to try this one it's cheaper than Spiriva for the NHS.

In fact I do not know about spriva inhaler I never used it. I am from india. I am using duovo an foracort. I was in USA from december 2016 to june 2017. During that period my copd flareup. There doctor prescribed me Anoro inhaler in powdered form. She gave me Anoro Sample also. I used sample but found useless in comparision of my own drugs i.e. foracort. Anoro is to much costly about ,$340 for 30 days dose. The phrma company who is making it is doing promotion to their product through free samples as wellas medical institution. I think spriva is far better than anoro.

Hi skv131 . This is a British forum so we do not pay different amounts for different medications. Anoro Ellipta has been available for about three years now, both here and in the US. Different people react to different inhalers and what suits one will not necessarily suit another. Welcome to the forum.
