I'm Absolutely Cream Crackered

Like most of you out there (The night time heavy breathers - awake during the dark hours) I don’t sleep very much. But…. Last night was so bad.

I couldn’t wait to get up the stairs last night. It always takes a while for me to climb the 13 steps to our bedroom. My Mrs gives me the night time nod, which means it’s time for bed and because it takes me a good 40 minutes to sort myself out before by bum hits the mattress - I set off early.

I was absolutely exhausted. So much so, I fell asleep quickly - but only for an hour - I woke with a huge panic attack and - Hey Presto!!! Been awake ever since.

People tell me to sleep during the day. I do try and nod off on the sofa - but again, after a few minutes, panic sets and I end up racing out the patio doors for air.

I was travelling down South a few weeks ago. Felt a bit tired so I pulled in to a service area for a kip. I kept the engine running to keep the air conditioning on - as it was hot outside. With my portable concentrator on, I slept for over 30 minutes.

Since then, if I really do get totally exhausted - I’ll get my keys and head for the car.

With this IPF thingy - I just wish I could stretch my lungs another half an inch. A medieval torture rack, hanging upside down like a fruit bat or blowing my lungs up with a foot pump have all crossed my mind. But Hey Ho! Onwards & Upwards Folks X

Before I go - Did you know that - It’s impossible to hold your nose and hummmmm!

Oh Nigel, it's not nice is it. Have you asked the doc for help?

I either sleep or I don't. This weekend the latter grrr

I've asked my doctor. Be he's just keen to fob me off with a few pills - so annoying. Cheers H C

I don't sleep well when it is hot either, normally I sleep like a baby for 6 hrs. Waking with a panic attack is really nasty because you don't know what is happening at first which makes it even worse, fortunately the last time it happened to me was over a year ago.

Humming with a parrot hanging from your nose is not possible either, but I did manage arghhhh!

LOL re Parrot

One of the great pleasures of keeping parrots, getting bitten (not). Sat on my shoulder, shouts "What do you want?" right in my ear, I turn round to say "Don't do that" and in a split second it had happened, one parrot pretending to be a nose ring. I had a flap of skin and flesh that I had to superglue down, back into place.

Hi Nigel,

Your description of the going to bed thing sounds very similar to mine, living with PF, setting off early up the stairs after the nod etc but I do sleep well once in bed. I only struggle if I have had too much caffeine through the day then my brain becomes turbo powered and wont shut down :) .

If you find that magical way of stretching your lungs let me know please, exercise seems to be the best option for me as long as I don't overdo it.

Tony.

Yes,that dreaded word again, why can't we have some, and as the years go on it seems even harder to get some......sleep that is!!

Hidden always a joy to read your posts because you find humour in virtually everything. Alas, sleep for me is equally difficult,so I completely sympathise with you.
