calcitriol & kidney disease

calcitriol & kidney disease

Following my blood test WHY don't GP never talk about kidney disease.

Everyone thinks mild kidney disease is nothing to worry about.

That might be the case but given my latest virus ass dysfunction I would beg to differ.

Anyway following blood test my Kidney GFR was 90 NOW my issue is hows that work with chronic inflammation immunity issues.

A guess not to well ANYWAY been doing a spot of googling and BANG did you know vitamin D / D3 helps combat kidney diseases also kidney helps with immunity / bone mineral density and diseases.

GOSH i never thought kidney was involved in all them mentioned.

So why do doctor wait till kidney are trashed before out is done.

So WHAT am going to do is see if taking vitamin D3 can improve my GFR number from 90 - 100 and see via next blood test if as improved or not ... via my gfr & albumin levels

As anyone one else seen there kidney GFR number improve suffer less lung inflammation or out

Hi Jeff, I don't know anything about the kidney thing but I do know that 18 months ago after I cajoled my GP to test me for vit D she was forced to put me on the high dose programme and Am now on a retainer of 1600 iu per day. I shouldn't risk boasting but I haven't had as much as a cold since, let alone an exacerbation.

I have read so much about other people with lung conditions and their experiences with vit D that I do believe it plays a major part in many issues and hasn't been studied enough.

Under 30 in the test and they are obliged to treat you. It used to be 50 but NICE moved the goal posts.

Have you had your vit D tested?

Hi Littlepom I can believe that of doctors mainly gp's EVEN nice.

I now know why my doctor said I could buy it but he would not perscibe it.

Glad you doing well on it :)

Yer I asked to be tested not sure of number but few months ago I was prescribed it THEN nothing.

oh sigh. If you were below 30 he is obliged to put you through the programme. They even have a patient sheet to give you. It is 20000 iu D3 3x week for five weeks. Then 1600 per day on repeat for for five months. Then tested again. If you have dropped again they have to put on a different form of vit D. If you are staying over 30 they should continue to give 1600 per day on repeat going forward. Good luck Jeff. You seem to have to fight for everything.

I am on the same programme littlepom. My vit d was tested and the number was 19 at the moment I take Adcal-D3 750mg/200unit capsuals 2 twice a day.. I was also put on Azithromycin in Febuaray as I had been getting infection after infection. And so far I have not had an infection since starting the tablets. I did have wheezing and breathlessness and had to be admitted to hospital as my 02 level was below 91 in June but didn't have an infection.

yes I do think that there is something in it. Obviously the azith is helping against infection but it's not fool proof against all the bacteria and viruses that like to play games with us so I think that the vit D definitely has a part to play. Hope you stay well.

Good morning Jeff, not sure at what level they decide to worry about kidney function, or other abnormal blood readings, seems we are at the mercy of their decision based on what is the norm for results and when to treat. See they are now preposing to but our case notes forward to a GP panel to assess whether it requires hospital referral in their opinion. Fair enough in some cases that will save wasted hospital time and in others may work to get you to hospital quicker. But surely it will cost the NHS more in administration?? what do you think Jeff? Holiday was good by the way.

Hi Katie defo agree with you there as far as mercy go's AS to kidney guess you have to be down to 60 before out is done and SO much for the toff spout about preventative medicine.

As to panels THE already using them SO be suspicious of GATEWAYs tear 1 / 2 ... I only told my doctor HE/ SHE can stick that load of TOFF I want to see proper doctor consultant.

Anyway glad had great holiday time :)
