Relieved, confused & fed up!

So, the consultant has discharged me as there's nothing long with my lungs! Okay, l wheeze all day and night, l bring up disgusting tasting green phlegm all day long every day as well as over night. I have steroids monthly along with antibiotics.

Last sputum test was H Influenza and klebslella.

My GP now says, must be a gastric issue!

Am just so fed up.

Hi

Mucus-producing tissue lines the mouth, nose, sinuses, throat, lungs, and gastrointestinal tract.

Seems they are working through the system.

Hopefully the cause and treatment are in sight.

I do hope you can get to the bottom of this very soon. Wishing you well. Xxxx

Hi there,

I have bronchiectasis and my mucus is always positive for H influenza.it's horrible, apparantly i have been told by my consultant it is very hard to get rid of and have been positive for this for years.i take a daily dose of antibiotic but it re occurs when stopped,i also take ranatidine at bedtime for any acid in the stomach overnight.i must admit this has helped slightly.

Think its sounds very harsh discharging you as this is ongoing for you.maybe ask for a second opinion?

Good luck x

Thanks folks. I understand the working your way round things but to be discharged, oh l haven't had a letter my GP told me today, seems harsh. I have suffered over 30years and l still am.

Montelukaat may help. He doubled omprezanol too. I just want to know what's truly wrong.

I've found l no longer go out to eat with friends because they are pit off by me coughing up all the time: l don't blame them!

Hi

Just a point to rember, when you are discharged this only means that particular referral as ended, does not mean you have been cast to one side. Your GP will continue with treatment and any further referrals if necessary.

Have you had a ct scan? Sounds like me..bronchiectasis.

Normally an underlying problem to be honest as i have done over 10years with hospitals and only 2 years ago diagnosed with a lung condition.

You should be offered an explaination as to why.

Yes i double up on omeprazole as told by my consultant, montekulast also.i take carboceistine also to thin the mucus..i really do feel for you,it's a horrible infection.

Ask for a second opinion, perhaps a different hospital,i did and was diagnosed.maybe no cure but help is out there surely.

Good luck x

Yes my CT scan showed no bronchiastasis and my lung function tests were more or less normal, although l could not do many of them in the box.

So frustrated.

Aww bless you

That must be very frustrating.

Maybe ask for a second opinion.somewhere that has a good repiratory reputation.

I feel your pain as i have been like you.

Thanks. Unsure if a second opinion will help to be honest. My GP admitted he doesn't know what's wrong so going down a list of possibilities. Just so, frankly, peed off! I just want to know what it is so l can work at improving things.

That is the problem most GPs sadly don't diagnose lung conditions quickly.i do hope you find a reputable hospital..been thinking about who i've seen over the years maybe an immunologist may understand the reasoning for your constant h influenzae?i have never been told it will be cured,i just start my antibiotics when it flares up.totally sympathise with you.

Really wish you well x

Of course you..it's your body.

I went back and forth for 10 years.a second ct scan confirmed my bronchiectasis as the first one was 50/50

Do you have breathing diffulties?

The h influenza makes my chest really poorly thats all.

I agree with dazzler. This sounds so much like bronchiectasis, with maybe the wheeze of asthma. I am not a doctor though and cannot diagnose. However, let's just look at this. You are wheezing and coughing up green mucus ( a sure sign of an infection) and yet they say there is nothing wrong with your lungs. I THINK NOT!

With those symptoms there is obviously something going on in your lungs. Just because they have sat back with their hands across their bellies and said that there is nothing wrong does not mean that you have to accept it. The problem with many medics is that if their knowledge and expertise is insufficient to deal with a patient's symptoms they claim that thay don't exist.

Look on the internet for a bronchiectasis specialist near to you. They are usually based at big teaching hospitals. Go to your GP with the name and get a referral.

Do not take no for an answer.

At least then you can get a true specialist opinion and these docs are so experienced that they would also be able to recognise any alternative condition.

You cannot continue to go on without suitable treatment because these conditions are progressive if not managed properly.

We have to be our own advocates.

Good luck.
