Eating irritates my throat then I cough!

I can go most of the day without coughing much at all BUT if, for example I have a coffee and biscuit when out and about my cough kicks off!

It doesn't seem to be food-type related or allergy response related just random but generally I cough after eating.

Basically it feels like my throat is irritated by the food, scratchy and my nose feels there's more mucus (sometimes) then I cough.

I'm being treated for my nonspecific interstitial pneumonitis (not pneumonia) but also have stuff for possible allergy and post nasal drip. I'm also on lanoprazole and ranitidine. ENT say I'm fine!

I suck money sweets and chew gum to keep my throat moist but it's something that's been constant throughout the past twenty months.

Hoping someone has a good idea so I can solve this asap. Thank you for listening.

PS The tap picture has nothing to do with the post but I thought you might like the fact it's not attached to anything. Look closely πŸ˜€ Thank you again x

You make it sound as though you have no other option but to cough, but by controlling your breathing as show in the videos I mentioned to you a while back, you can prevent a lot of it. It could be it's all the cough that is causing the problem. I like your airborne tap but I doubt you could wash your hands under it. πŸ˜‰ I prefer your low maintenance Jack Russell. 😎

Thats similar to mine. If I eat then I will have a good cough. It also doesn't bother me when I'm playing squash, but as soon as I stop, then I have to cough

Blimey! Any ideas why it's happening to you when you eat?

Well apart from reflux which you seem to have covered, some foods seem to generate mucus pretty rapidly after eating - that's my experience anyway. You could possibly have 'silent reflux' which is where the acid breaches the top of the oesophagus and gets into the airways, irritating them and so causing coughing. Have a chat with your doctor about this or whatever else it could be Georgina.

Thank you for your reply. I'm seeing my GP on Wednesday so I'm going bring it up again then. I must admit he's baffled about my diagnosis and has no experience of anyone with nonspecific interstitial pneumonitis. He also told me that the practice hasn't had anyone at all. I might suggest someone looks done my throat into my stomach etc. Thank you again
