NHS Choices Website Talking A Load A TOFF

A House of Commons Science and Technology Committee report on homeopathy said that homeopathic remedies perform no better than placebos, and that the principles on which homeopathy is based are "scientifically implausible". This is also the view of the Chief Medical Officer, Professor Dame Sally Davies.

NHS and Govermeant are full of sh&£ THEY say this no homeopath drug of any help.

Well that is more gov nhs lies and this loads do good... such as aspirin and bifidobacterium that is better than most prescribed cancer egf drug.

Some people swear by homeopathy and it's worth trying for many but not all.

Pete still had leg cramps but nothing seems to help.

You take care xxxxxx

Hi sassy defo agree AS to cramps tell pete doctors can't go ob about tonic water to cure cramps SO should get good stuff now.

I guess with anything there as to be proper published research.

Looks like mps acted on whim but when ever have they acted in public intrest.

Jeff,i used to suffer nightly leg cramps, due i believe as a reaction to the statin tablet i take for keeping cholesterol in check. For over 6 months now i have taken one tab 300mg of quinnine sulphate every evening and my leg cramps have virtually disappeared. The alternative was to drink a bath tub full of tonic water daily.the tabs are a tad more easier i believe.i think the homeopathic equivalent would be to lick the bark of a cinchona tree for about 200 years for the same effect.regards...skis

My doc prescribed quinine tablets and yes, they stopped the cramps but - my tinnitus, which I'd become used to to the point where I hardly noticed it, became unbearable. To be fair, he did say this might happen and to 'just stop taking them, if it does'. He swapped my Seretide for Salbutamol at the same time and I've not had cramp since then.

Not so. Licking bark would get you a very small dose. The point of homeopathic medicine is that they contain NO active ingredients whatsoever. The water 'remembers' what had been in it previously and it is this which effects the cure. How can any rational person accept this as anything other than magic. Utter tosh.

Recommend reading Ben Goldacre's excellent and very readable book Bad Science for more on this and many related health matters.

Jeff, found this on the NHS website nhs.uk/Conditions/legcramps...

Heard before about tonic water as it contains quinine but I'm sure I remember that the quantity is very, very small - maybe, as Magpuss says, tablets are the option ... but with side effects (listed at the bottom of the linked page)

Hi Jeff interesting topic, but as y_nots link shows the side effects of tablets can be fatal. So maybe homepathy is the answer. I had heard tonic water helps, my mum used to use that, but it can be due to lack of salt too so maybe a little sprinkle might help, keeping hydrated helps too, so maybe a drink on bedside table at night . Not saying anything is the ultimate answer but worth a try.
