Togetherness.

It's never wise to get a dog

When you are very old.

Cos if you kick the bucket

It will be left out in the cold.

But if you get the timing right

And this would be just luck

You could grow old together

And together kick the buck.

With Midge my little terrier,

It's lucky I might be.

Cos doggie years are shorter

And she's catching up with me.

There's a poem about a Rainbow Bridge

What an unkown author writ

Far too long to quote on here

Because it wouldn't fit.

We could cross that bridge together

But I think that's rather droll,

Cos I'm pretty sure that Midge and I

Will finish up down a hole.

The Rainbow Bridge

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,

Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.

Where the friends of man and woman do run,

When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,

Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.

On this golden land, they wait and they play,

Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,

For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.

Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,

Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,

Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.

All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,

Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met;

Together again, both person and pet.

So they run to each other, these friends from long past,

The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,

Has turned into joy once more in each heart.

They embrace with a love that will last forever,

And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.

Down a hole like the white rabbit! Then - voila, just go across that rainbow bridge and you're in wonderland! See you there...........later on though, not just yet. Oh, and I'll have a cat with me😄👍🏻

That rainbow bridge sounds a lot more fun then some of the places we learned about in school. The nuns spoke constantly about hell, purgatory and limbo and the venal sins and mortal sins that would get us there. They never mentioned romping in the grass :) I'm planning on going up in smoke rather then down a hole. But I hope that's not going to happen for a while yet. The nuns of course wouldn't approve of this - burning your body without permission ? Yes Sister, I'm bypassing burning in hell by doing the job myself :)

Love the poem !

I'll be surrounded by a sea of my cats.

They say a dog's a man's best friend,

It keeps him young in mind.

But a fellows brain is easily fooled,

As he will surely find.

When his body starts to fall apart,

And is screaming no,no, no!

His mind may still work perfectly,

But his legs refuse to go.

Lovely poem Don, and a lovely thought, but I hope that my lot are patient as I don't fancy joining them for any time soon 😊😊😊XXX

It's not a good idea either when old either to get a kitten

No matter how much they have you smitten

If you get one say at 82

The chances are it will outlive you.

It's always possible to have an arrangement with people you trust to adopt your pet if they and your pet outlive you. I'm fortunate to have a few just waiting for my dog. 😀 I sometimes fear my life is in danger. 😲
