Reactions with drugs.

Hi,I am on a number of tablets for heart disease & blood pressure plus TIAs & for the last two plus years have slowly got very fatigued, within the last six weeks or so I have been a lot better & the reason for this was one of my tablets a slow release BP was reacting with the blood thinner, I forgot to take my tablets for two morning running & started to feel better,I had noticed over the two years ago that later in the day I started to feel as I had a bit more energy. I stopped the slow acting BP tab but kept on with another one at night, spoke to doctor who suggested keeping. Note of BP & keep in touch,my daughter who is a nurse said they where OK & a recent visit to my heart consultant said with myBP notes stay off them, my wife who has been put on a blood thinner (took off warfarin) recently has had the same problems same BP tabs,so she stopped & is feeling a lot better i.e. Not fatigued, what I cannot understand is why this has not been noted, I went for a preoperative medical yesterday for another angiogram & brought this up,the reply was as the blood thinner is only a relative new pill the problems are not well known yet.

It's very frustrating when possible interactions between drugs aren't pointed out to you. I always read the leaflets that come with the meds and have on a number of occasions found that I've been prescribed meds which are not recommended for use with some of the other meds. Taking advice from our members here on HU, I asked my pharmacy if they would check out all my meds for possible interactions. They did this and I now feel much less worried about side effects etc. Maybe this would be a good idea for you to do as well. I hope your condition improves and that you get the information you need.

Hi Billiejean, I have spoken on numerous times to my doctor about the fatigue I was experiencing & spent six days in hospital with it.I had a visit from the hospital pharmacist & nothing was said about interactions,it was put down to my heart problems,I asked why does it get better later in the afternoon,the blood Bp tablet was slow acting,it seemed to me that was the problem & since stopping it I have been much better,plus my wife is also better.I tried to put a post in naming the tabs but was told not allowed.

Well I'm glad that you managed to work out what was happening yourself BA. Sometimes you just don't get any satisfaction from the medical profession and they are extremely unlikely to admit they've made a mistake. At least you now know what's not helping you and can avoid it in future.

A quick reply,I was looking at my grandson graduation in London yesterday he is now a Dr in dentistry with his brother who is doing a medical degree,I will have to put it too them.

Hi Bootysaddict. I also have COPD/Emphysema along with every thing you mentioned and so have lots and lots of meds for all conditions. Can you tell me what meds you actually took before you made the discovery.

Hi hallentine47, I have not got COPD my problems are heart & blood pressure plus I have had some TIAs, I did write a post & named the tablets that I thought was causing me the problems & was told this was not allowed, one tablet is a blood thinner not warfarin,the other was a slow release blood pressure tablet 10mg which I was on mywife was on 2.5mg.she had the same problem ,the doctor has told her to stop them & monitor her BP for a week & go back to see her.

Hi,all I know is when I went to post my post it came up not allowed, I just assumed it was because of the two drugs, felodipine 10 mg & Apixaban 5 mg.

Hi, I read your post and was really taken aback. I live here in the US and I suppose that I have taken our medicals for granted. Our healthcare is so doggone expensive!! I do realize that most of the US has excellent health care and the nearby Cosmopolitan Regions have State of the Art Equipment. What I'm getting to is this: Chemist as you say, which are our pharmacies have computers with alerts. They are also in the doctor's offices here. If a doctor here writes a RX, and say you have a medication that would interfere with another one----it sounds an alert to the author or the pharmacy trying to fill it. Then, the doctor can change the RX and if necessary, the Pharmacist can call the doctor's office to have it changed or specify for clearance. Sometimes it just says, you must eat before taking. This technology is priceless for us all for patient's health and to reduce malpractice litigation. So, the equipment is available but it is very expensive and therefore the consumer bears the burden of the cost. So....when you live on a monthly pension we sometimes wonder why it cost so much just to live! All of our hospitals have them and the doctors and hospitals in the Cosmopolitan areas have them too. Sometimes the rural doctor's offices don't have them but the Pharmacist would catch it when he went to fill the RX. I wish it was available there for your people, but I suppose we should be happy with what we have. There are so many third world countries that don't even have running water I am thankful that we have what we do!!

Hi girlie girl,did not think the posts go to USA nice surprise, I used to go to USA nearly every month back in the sixties, have a lot of relatives over the pond,had a job offer in New Jersey back then but wife would not move, recently found more cousins, love to go over to see them in Arizona but I most probably not get insurance. Going for an angiogram end of month, twelfth time this will be between that & stents being fitted, lucky I do not have to pay,but we pay national insurance all your life till you retire, based on your earnings you pay a fixed percentage.
