Hello all,I have been reading your posts since 2015. After being diagnosed with emphysema

I joined this side and over the years you gave me so much information it made my life much better. I am very active and not afraid to be out of breath. My son invited me to go on holiday with him to the Isle Of Wight.I was a bit apprehensive as it is quite hilly and here in Norfolk I have problems with a tiny bit of incline. To my surprise the breathing went perfect at every hill I climbed,I felt normal (health wise). Was it the clean sea air ? I am back in Norfolk, started work in the garden and had a walk.Breathing was harder again bearable but it gave me to think :how much influence does your surrounding have ?

Wish you all the best

As expected lm better at seaside or cruising. Anywhere build up, lots of cars etc finish me off.

We're cruising Fyords soon and so looking forward to breathing well.

Hi nice to meet you, I live by the seaside and find it definitely helps with my breathing. I don't think I would feel this well in a city.

Hello humdrum. So nice to meet you. I too have emphysema, and find that my breathing is better near the coast....as long as it's not too hot! I find pollen a bit of an issue as well these days, having developed late onset hayfever a couple of years ago. XXX

I live in new forest area. But my local beach is Lepe where I can see the isle of Wight and often go for beach walks. Sometimes after a forest walk my breathing isn't as good as when I walk the beach definitely the salt air ..glad you had a lovely holiday on the Island I hope you return again it's a lovley place xxxx

Live in a rural area. Just come back from the coast.Did not notice much of a difference really in breathing but high air pressure tends to make exercising more difficult I find.

There are just so many variables with, the weather, different types of pollen and fungal spores and pollution levels (both home grown and imported from the continent) then there is the fact that we are all different in the way our bodies react to it all, e.g. tree pollen might affect someone more than grass pollen does. I have tried for a year to suss it out and for me air density has been the closest to match to how I feel, but even that has no guarantee to be accurate, maybe about 80% of the time, good enough to forecast how I will be for maybe the next 3 days which enables me to plan what jobs to do at work and when.

Great to hear

I must admit when anyone starts talking about salt pipes or salt caves I stand in the fresh air and breathe deeply and can taste the salt in my lungs. I think well I haven't got to pay for this :)

Hi,

I agree with that the salt air is better and have found it is beneficial to me. I wonder if you put salt into a steamer would it do any good.?

Great to here you did the hills and was fine your right the towns and cities are so bad for us you look at baby's in pushchairs at the same highs as car exhausts and they have coughs all the time so it starts from at early age so when we get bad lungs they say to you must have smoked maybe but I tell you one thing I've smoked more exhaust and bone fire nights smoke cities are very bad for your health.

But well done 👍
