what is the main side effect with Carbocisteine and what is the best way of sorting out problems with this. I have only just been prescribed them. I'm new here.

I take saline neb for helping with phlegm. But this should help patient.info/medicine/carbo.... Remember we are all different and what helps one may not help another.

I have been on them for five years and don't seem to have any side effects - can't be absolutely sure because my medication regime is a bit like a carousel, up and down depending on what they find next!

Hi, I have taken this medication for many years with no long term side affects. I did have slight nausea at the beginning and a slight raise of my heart rate. However, these were minor and settled within a few days. It is a great medication. I hope you find it very beneficial as I have. Helen

Hi KC04xke, and welcome to our site, like the replies you have already had, I have had no side effects with Carbocistine and I have been on them for over 3 years, originally I was prescribed 8 per day but now down to 3,but as Nottobad says we are all different, it may be worthwhile having a chat to your GP or specialist nurse, good luck

Look at the patient information leaflet included in the box.

The main (rare) side effect seems to be blood in vomit or stools. If happens stop taking immediately and see GP. Also some people have allergic reactions, probably to the lactose or colourings. Again stop immediately and see GP.

I've been taking 2 3 times a day for over 5 years with no probs.

Hi

I take this medication in liquid form - it is called 'Mucodyne' and I take it for my condition of an IPF. Can come on at any time yet I feel the liquid form is better as it drags the mucous away from the throat and back down the body.

Hope this helps

Of 18 medications in my tool kit this is the one and only one that does not give me any side effects.

KCO4xkeHi Welcome. Many of the members of this forum are on this medication and have been for some time, to date I have had no ill side effects but they are good at what they do for the mucus. Side effects are listed on the leaflet inside the box, if you are experiencing smoething different go see your GP.
