Just breathe

I have been doing pretty well without my oxygen one day I visited my niece for a few hours, saw my daughter for a few hours and had to walk up 3 flights of stairs to get to her apartment only took a couple of minutes of rest and normal again. Then I went to see some of my old neighbors who I hadn't seen since I moved they were surprised as they thought I was dead! They were happy to see me. Spent a couple of hours there then I went and got my husband lunch as he likes chicken so I got him some broasted chicken and take it home to him. I also had to pick one of my son's up at one in the morning as he got in a little trouble. Wasn't to happy about that trip but I was the only one available. I couldn't do any of this a year ago. I told my niece that some days I almost feel like I don't have copd. Maybe it was just a very long bad dream. Anyway I did all this in the last few days

Well done. An impressive achievement.

That's great - good for you Roessner. It's important to let people know that you were on oxygen and have got off it as sometimes people ask about that. Long may it continue :)

I just got up earlier and brushed my teeth and then went to kitchen to get something to drink. I had just been lying down reading posts and watching TV. When I got back decided to check my oxygen stats. Couldn't believe it it was at 95. Two weeks ago it would have dropped to 83 just going in to brush my teeth. So something is changing.

Wow, so much change in so short a time. What do you attribute the improvement to?

A combination of things walking without oxygen determination prayer everyday and a combination of my medß. I really felt that I had forgotten how to breathe and felt like using oxygen was making it more difficult my stats were dropping even using it so I just thought I'd try it and I just got stronger I can't believe last night I was walking around without it brushing my teeth you know I'm doing a little exertion and my stats did not drop it off so something's working I know I'm not healed but I'm feeling a heck of a lot better.

My stats were dropping even with oxygen so I thought that I was getting too much oxygen so I decided to just by walking a little bit without it the first day I just walked a little ways and stop and rest then I would walk a little bit further and stop and rest little bit further and rest and then I would come back it has been a few weeks now and I'm up to four blocks to my destination and four blocks back I have to rest about 4 times but I felt stronger add just quit using oxygen less and less until I wasn't using it anymore when I go out and come back home when I'm driving I'll have to use it for a little while just a couple of minutes it has been a slow process but I feel really good and I'm glad that I did it I have to do it with my Walker steel but that is my next goal. I just drove by my lungs were getting weaker and that I needed to do this otherwise I would have become housebound I don't know if it will work for you because we are all different but if you do do it don't overdo it a few steps at a time amazing what the body can do

Please be very careful I wasn't on a BiPAP machine turn on do anything that makes you uncomfortable I knew and if I stopped and rested my stats would return to normal quickly

Thanx hun, I know what you mean, sometimes I feel I use oxygen too much !!! Will try slowly and see what happens xxx

Exercise is King in this illness and knowing your limits. Thanks for your encouragement. I'm just coming back from a self inflicted weakening of my lungs took a herb to help with my anxiety and it relaxed my lung muscles 3 months to get some strength back!

Fantastic. Keep this going.

Hi, I am on oxygen all the time too. I am on 3 liters. I can only speak for myself but I will share with you what my Pulmonologist, (lung specialist) told me, " Oxygen is not only for your lungs to help you breathe, it is also needed for your organs, including your brain, to function properly. Because of that statement I come to realize that I should probably wear it as directed. I sure don't like to and I'd much rather go without it but I'm afraid to take that chance. I'm just telling you about my experience and not giving you medical advice. I'm so lucky to still be here, I thought I'd share my story with you.

I appreciate your thoughts but my doctor also Toby that I had lung cancer and I did not so that I respect their opinion I will do what my heart feels right love you too have feelings for me anymore so I quit I felt I was getting too much pure oxygen and my staff we're dropping whether or not I used it or not that tell me that my legs were getting weaker I have faith in God I'm not just rushing out and doing it the oxygen is there if I need it and then waiting off of it it's been a very slow process I feel a hundred percent better and my stats are no longer dropping when I had my surgery I felt like it was wrong I did a lot of research and tell him that if a nodule is below a certain size is usually benign is that they should just monitor it for growth I had every kind of scam that you can think of and I had 9 Dr telling me that there is a 99.9% chance that I had cancer I got a second opinion and that doctor wanted to take out more of my lungs I'm very happy that I didn't go that route I told my doctor about the research I've done and they still refuse to do a biopsy I ran into the operating room crying because I felt it was wrong but hasn't he go against 9 Dr plus a second opinion and that is where my nightmare began they removed part of my lung and then I was told to walk immediately after my lung collapse and I had to have all the chamber back in that was very painful then something went wrong and my lunch is too just are breaking down so they had to go in and they put cow skin in me they used staples to hold it together they then sent me home after over medicating me with 40 mg of oxycodone every 2 hours I was having problems breathing and my son told me it was because of the medication. I never felt so desperate in my life I told my son if he didn't give me back to the hospital that I would die within the hour he waited for my niece to come and I begged her to let me go to the hospital she agreed they drove me to the hospital and by the time we got there I was unconscious my son had to make a decision whether or not to Valerie incubate me because to do it and a tube let's place down my throat to breathe he only had a few minutes left by the time you got me to the hospital I was in ICU for 3 days in an induced coma then I spent three months in the hospital they wanted to put me on hospice but I refused so they sent me to a nursing home with some very powerful medicine it was also very toxic I was there for about 2 weeks but at one point they had to stop the medicine because it was shutting down my kidney and my heart so it had to be monitored very carefully tell you a set schedule listen to your doctor but sometimes it calls for you to be your own advocate and that's what I'm doing is there is a problem I will go back on oxygen but as you can tell my story I shouldn't even have been here

I'm so very sorry you have had to endure such a journey. WOW! I guess different countries do things different medically. When I was diagnosed with lung cancer, a CT Scan picked my tumor up. It was very small. They did a fine needle aspiration biopsy where they drew fluid out and sent it to pathology. It was in fact non-small cell carcinoma. Then came surgery to remove my left upper lobe of my lung. Next, I had 4 rounds of Chemo. That was back in 2011. From the sound of things, neither one of us should still be here! We are both fighters!! Bless you.

That's what upsets me so much the simple biopsy would have told them that it wasn't cancer and they could have monitored it for a while I don't know why they were so keen on doing this without a biopsy. I promise I am very careful and take time to rest.
