Hi I am having a rant I have been on oxygen for 3 weeks not needed at rest and I am apauled at the weight and dirt on these canisters I have been told they don't provide any others as mine is for 2 hours is this true as I feel I am just being fobbed off.
Can I apply for a blue badge now that I am on oxygen?

They do two sizes ,ask for the paediatric size.
What litres are on? can you use a conserver?
If suitable liquid oxygen may a better alternative.

What setting is you oxygen. 1lpm, 2lpm, 3lpm or higher.
A conserver delivers a pulse dose on demand rather than continuous flow.
Will mean cylinders last longer.

On continuous flow with large cylinder 2hrs23 min. With conserver 7hrs.
On continuous flow with smaller cylinder 1hr42min. With conserver 3hrs.
Are you not able to use a pulse delivery system.
Inquire with your respitory nurse.
Back to original question, do you not have bag and trolley?
I have a bag but it's to heavy to carry,iwill asked about pulse system when I have a review with oxygen nurse in august. thanks for your advice as this is all new to me.

Did they not give you a trolley as well. The bag fits in side the trolley then slide in cylinder, once every thing connected and flap closed, cylinder is not seen.
Hi, stone is talking about the number you turn your cylinder dial to (usually somewhere between 1 and 6). That is the number of litres per minute (lpm) you are on. So if you set the dial to the number 3 you are on 3 litres per minute (3lpm).
Continuous flow blows up your nose all the time but if you use a conserver (a little box attached to the cylinder) you only get a puff of oxygen when you breathe in so the cylinder lasts longer.
I have a flask that works on pulse, it's a lot lighter than the cylinders, ask about it, you have to be refered by the respiritory nurse. They also do ones on wheels that you can pull along.
Hi Posative I'm with you on the cylinders (ugly and not always very clean!) I made a couple of covers for mine and now they look quite nice! I must enquire as stone suggests about paediatric ones, the others are so heavy. Yes by all means apply for a blue badge. Xx

It's a little trolley to put your oxygen canisters in, just wheel it around, easy...My oxygen supplier (BOC) supplied mine free.

They do get heavy. You can get oxygen bottle carriers but they seem quite expensive. I just looked up shopping trollies on eBay, they are cheap and may well do the job.
When I go out walking around I take two paediatric oygen cylinders in my shopping trolley, in case one runs out. Each cylinder lasts a long time on 4litres a minute, but I feel more secure with a spare one. My trolley has a pull down seat which is handy. There are several on the internet to choose from.
If I go to the shopping 'mall' in my nearest big town I 'hire' a mobility scooter which is lent free by Shopmobility. To find if your local centre has Shopmobility the website is nfsuk.org/ .
I think the oxygen supply system is excellent in the UK. We are very lucky to have it. When I have nearly run out I telephone the supply company and new cylinders are delivered the next day.
