Please try to increase your use of the oxygen. Using it less than you have been prescribed leaves your internal organs at risk. If the breathing exercises don't work do see your GP because help is out there.

Hi Carol, sorry to hear your not in a nice place. I don't know your capabilities but if you can walk a little then perhaps you can get out your house and get some fresh air. A little bit of exercise and some fresh air will do you no harm. As for your excess mucus, you should see your doctor for help. It is obviously getting you down. Have you no family nearby to give support?

Hi, two pars, my family do try and help but being as my family at home are mainly young males they have a hard enough time watching me struggle and they do try and help me but as far as advice they don't really understand why the doctors don't do more it's a difficult one, I do move around as much as I can but the reflux/mucus is so disabling it's destroying me, thanks for your reply appreciate it xx

Carol I am sorry to hear you reflux is so bad for you. Maybe the nurse at your practice can encourage your doctor to do a bit more to help.

Hi Can you ask your doctor for some tablets to break down the mucus, then drink plenty of water. Reflux can be helped with a gastro resistant tablet and/or Peptac a liquid better than Gaviscon then top it up if needs be with a good old Rennie. There are also natural cures. My mother used to take bicarbonate of soda with water that worked for her

Mucus can be difficult to move, often 3No coughs and then up it comes. Can't help with the oxygen.

These 2 /3 products help me with the mucus & reflux.

If you could get one or other of these problems giving you less grief then maybe your anxiety may subside. Even trying to work out a solution by trial and error, don't get frustrated keep at it helps keep the mind occupied.

Hi Keith, I'm on the carbocystien caps but sometimes it floods me n with the reflux makes matters worse, the nasty stuff gets stuck sort of in my gut stomach , I take omerazole and gaviscon, but might try the peptic, you are right though if my mind is occupied I don't stress as much, thanks so much xx carol

Hi. I am new here and have emphysema, diagnosed 3 years ago and gradually getting worse with each flare up. I also get panic attacks but have found hypnosis tapes for relaxation really good . As soon as I get panicky with not being able to breath properly I put on my headphones and within a few minutes I can calm down. Give it a go it really helps

Hi you should ask your doctor about medication for the reflux also if you look up something called hyperventilation syndrome (it's common among people with underlying breathing difficulties) you will see that the shallow breathing can actually be a cause of reflux & make matters a whole lot worse try deep breathing exercises also try to be aware of how your breathing & correct it if you can at different points throughout the day at least this is the approach I am taking with it all onwards & upwards ay I hope this helps xX
