Good luck, hope everything goes well xx

Hello. I haven't had a PIP assessment yet, but expect to soon. From what I have read, the best thing is to take as long as you want, ask for breaks as often as you need to and don't let them rush you. If you can't do something don't try, but give them a polite reason for refusal. Also, if it doesn't go the way you deserve then you can appeal. Best of luck, hope it goes well for you x

Just lettin u know it was ok we just sat on my sofa and she literally ask the same questions on the form x

Hi Clai, good luck with the assessment

Don't make them a cup of tea

make sure you tell them of all of the aids that you use to cook a meal and how family members of friends regularly check that you are eating The aids include devices to open jars, a stool, a slow cooker or soup maker. I also have an instant one cup water boiler so that I don't have to lift the kettle.

Likewise with showering and dressing.

Have any medical equipment such as nebuliser, flutter device, walking aid, oxygen if you are on it on good view.

if they try to get you to stand on one leg or something silly just show them that you can't

Don't walk anywhere

Stress how anxious going out makes you, impossibility of using public transport cause of your condition .

They can try to make this seem as though it is a test of what you can do but you have to show them everything that you can't do.

Again, good luck. I'm sure that you will be fine.

There not getting a drink I'm furious I have to justify myself to a stranger I fought for my life for 12month on life support for 8 use home oxygen now but they still want to assess me thanks for the advice xx

I agree with you, it's a disgrace. Especially when we learned yesterday that these companies are going to receive £700 million more than they were originally contracted for! How many benefits would that pay.

I think the secret is to make them feel sorry for you. After 17 year Warwick county council decided that I needed an assessment for my Blue Badge. After seeing me the assessor was so cross that she phoned them and told them that I should never have been sent and to put it in the post that day. I had PIP assesment at home. I got lower rate personal care and upper level mobility which was what I wanted.

That's the outcome I'm hoping for if I was to loose my car I'd have to get the bus and by the time I get to the bus stop my oxygen would be empty I'm on 6ltr.... I feel so fed up and stressed today there due between 11-1 I'm not even dressed still sat in my dressing gown unwashed and scruffy hair might even jut stay like this 😌heard story's about them marlin people down for havin nice and clean homes ... my house is beautiful my ex partner runs a renovation company so u can imagine my house it's stunning but I spend all my time here to much hassle carrying oxygen around never mind a spare canister x

in reply to Clai31

stay in your night clothes, sit in your chair and stay there. Is your partner there to open the door. Take your time answering the questions. Think of your worst days. You are ten times worse today!

I can't believe that they are wasting money on an assessment of somebody on home oxygen. Ridiculous

I still get DLA (not my turn to switch over yet) and I was able to continue working for a several years after being put on oxygen, though I appreciate not everyone will be able to.

Similar to myself then my condition was causeed by being venitilated for so long which has caused irreversible damage to my lungs and left me with pulmonary fibrosis and intersistual lung disease x

Hi I hope your assessment goes well. I don't think you will have any problem getting it. I got pip and most of my point were for the things I have to help me. I was one point off getting enhanced rate I got standard for both. And I am not on oxygen. But the asseser could see I could not walk more than 20 meter without getting breathless I had my assessment at ther office. Take care xx

Well done! Now time to relax. I'm in the process of completing my assessment for changing over from DLA to PIP so I was following your journey with interest. I'm panicking just looking at the front of the form for goodness sake!!! Again, well done for getting through today maybe you can enjoy the remainder of the Easter break.

Isn't it just ridiculous that we get nervous about dealing with the change-over but then it's not really surprising when it is our future they hold in their hands. I'm so glad you had a decent assessor as some of them are let's just say,far from being understanding. I will be sharing my progress(or not as the case may be) on here.

The press paint a very dark picture of pip / DLA. Ignore it. For me it was respectful, quick. Told not to worry. Had a letter within weeks increasing payments quite substantially. Others tell a similar story, not all though

As awfull as this might sound the bad story's probally come from the people who don't really deserve the benefit if I cud have chosen a different life of coarse I would have done I havnt asked to have lung disease from the age of 16 but I was delt these cards so I'll deal

With it xx
