Another Blood Test.

I'm off to have a blood test

Well that's not strictly true

They'll only take the blood today

To test in a day or two.

I've had this done so often

I know it does no harm.

The only fear that I might have

Is they find an empty arm.

My left is always difficult

They have to ferret around.

I finish up having umpteen pricks

Before a vein is found.

I tell the nurse about this

That the right arm will be best.

Some can get quite stroppy

Ignoring my request,

Very few can do it

But good ones find the vein.

All this sounds rather petty

But it helps to entertain.

When you have procedures done

You simply can't abide.

It helps if you can always see

It has a funny side.

Yup. I am lucky, I have veins like hawsers. Never a problem. Once I was waiting to have a CTPA scan. A junior doctor came in to put in the cannula. "Err..." I said to him, "Shouldn't it be a green one?" "Oh no," he replied. "Pink is fine." Five minutes later he appeared at the door, somewhat shame-faced. Six pairs of eyes all looked at him. You know what hospitals wards are like. "Errr.... I'm really sorry. You were right , it should have been a green one." So he came across with it. "You are lucky I don't have a thing about needles, young man." I said. But by then I had had AB gas taken from my right wrist, so that was all bruised. A cannula inside my right elbow, so that was all bruised, he had messed up the inside of my left elbow. So he peered at the purply green carnage and finally found a vein in the back of my left hand. "Listen to the patient," I muttered.

Sorry, you don't really want to hear that when you are on the way for a blood test, so you?

Thank you for the poem.

It can't be very long before

They come to take me away! :-o

Well now you've got an audience

On our forum every day,

and I hope your dog appreciates

His master's great word play.

He may not understand it

but we do very well

And if the white-coats come for you

We'll see them all in h*ll.

in reply to O2Trees

Thank you for those few kind words

It makes it all worthwhile.

It's nice to know that now and then

I make somebody smile.

One thing my dog appreciates,

Is knowing which is which

And that she is like yourself.

A lovely little female.

That's just a wee bit naughty Don,

I don't know what to think.

Should i feel appreciative

or just kick up a stink?

But in the end life's just too short

to take offence at that.

I'm much too tired this evening

to give you tit for tat!

in reply to O2Trees

I just said you were female,

I don't know why that irked.

I hoped for a good response from you

And look how well it worked.

It's nice to know there's someone here

Who rhymes the same as me

If the white coats visit us

I'll have company.

;-)

In truth i thought it clever

perhaps that wasn't clear

But were you scared of being rude

or feared the mods were near? :D

in reply to O2Trees

The word did not describe you

But I didn't think you'd mind.

Then when I came to press the send

I thought it most unkind. ;-) x
