Forgot in my enthusiasm to post - add the picture. I was saying -God must have had his full colour Palette on hand when he designed this bird. Anyone know what species?

I don't think it is a species, more like something one of the ladies knitted!

Good one. Maybe you put a tea pot underneath.

Dear dear Don - surely you knit too? from one of the ladies :D

in reply to O2Trees

As a mater of fact, Mrs 02Trees, I did knit khaki squares for our boys at the front whilst sitting in the air-raid shelter :-b

Are you mating with Fact, Don? That's interesting - do you make more facts, alternative ones maybe?

Im impressed at your knitting, though not sure whether to believe it or not. Yours Mrs O2Trees or actually Ms O2Trees

in reply to O2Trees

I'm ready to mate with anything Ms 02Trees and I've noted your interest ;-)

Knitting khaki coloured squares was a national past-time at the beginning of WW2. They were sown together to make blankets for the troops we were told. Even the toughest school kids learned to knit with big wooden needles and thick khaki wool. It was quite competitive as to how many you could do. Girls did complicated things like socks and scarves, casting-off was always a problem I remember.

Boys learnt to knit in those days, a cheap way to provide handicrafts. In the 40s just after the war at my village school the girls knitted pixie hoods and the boys knitted dishcloths. Quite cosy really round the tortoise stove on a wet winter afternoon! In earlier times men knitted Guernseys and Aran jumpers.

My women's group until recently taught girls and boys to knit in an after school club.

I remember knitting pot holders at school.

Amazing Megan! Im sure somewhere down the line some photoshop came into play though.

" Awe! Thanks Jean. Yes I've been really poorly. It was the shock of what happened.. But I'm on the mend again... Oh! And Jean the photo of the Tanager bird. Is how it really looks.. When I was a working Vet. I specialized in Ornithology and as such came across some beautiful exotic Birds. xx Megan..."

Dear Samjeff

I'd like to say I was machete in hand, pith helmet on my head, trusty local huntsmen at my side in deepest Amazon Basin. Truth to tell sitting in my office in N Wales with nothing more taxing than clicking my mouse.

Im sure megannell would give you a lot more background all I know is what she wrote Paradise Tanager. But it doesn't detract from its beauty.
