Worried sick.

Up yet again at silly o'clock, 4am. Hope I will not hit the fags today. I'm rather stressed. My baby (Hollie) the Chihuahua seems to be poorly. She won't eat, but worse, isn't drinking. She's done nothing but sleep. Going to get her to the vets today, if I can. Hollie, is 6yrs old and never ailed before, I'm praying she is ok. Good day yesterday with the fags. Only had 3 again ( I know, tut tut). Today is a different day though, im going to be stressed and I usually smoke more under them circumstances. Hoping you all have a good day. Sonia.

Sonsafc in reply to dyson

Thank you Dyson, never thought of the fact she may be picking up stress from myself. Ive been syringing water into her mouth. Hollie ain't happy about it, but I'll not have her dehydrated. Going to ring veterinary hospital when it opens at nine. You seem to have the same probs as myself with your sleeping. Ive had enough now, Dyson, im surviving on 3 to 5hrs sleep a night. This as been for the last 2yrs roughly. Have no problem getting to sleep, its stopping asleep. GP refuses to give me sleeping tablets as I can fall asleep. It just seems a vicious circle.

Please talk to your doctor about Champix.I myself suffered no side effects and nor did anyone else I know who used them to quit cigarettes. They worked.

Sonsafc profile image
Sonsafc in reply to piping

Piping I have tried them in the past. They did not work for me, but did for others. Unfortunately I will not be allowed them now as I also have a heart condition.

piping profile image
piping in reply to Sonsafc

Does a heart condition preclude you from taking them?I thought they affected brain receptors?

I have had these my self but they did not work left it 3mths and had them again still no good but every one else finds them good

Hi Sonia

Sorry to hear about your situation.

Try to keep calm and console Hollie.

She will pick up on your stress.

There could be all sorts of reasons why she isn't behaving normally, but you.are right not to take chances.

See the vet as soon as possible to rule out anything serious and to calm your nerves.

All the best and keep us posted.

Xx Aidi-Joll 🐾🌻

No "tut-tuts" from this corner; you KNOW cigarettes are killers and are the worse thing in the world for you.

Thinking about the stress and how to relieve it is just adding to it,your puppy is feeding from your feeling.I know it's difficult but try switching off, think of the best place...time...or person that you can remember and go with the flow...you should feel a lot calmer then puppy will relax then you will too.

I know it sounds a lot but with relaxing everything seems easier

I hope you start feeling better soon and puppy gets better too.

The very much for your thoughts. Little Johnny attended a horse auction with his father.

He watched as his father moved from horse to horse, running his hands up and down the horse's legs and rump, and chest.

After a few minutes, Johnny asked, "Dad, why are you doing that?"

His father replied, "Because when I'm buying horses, I have to make sure that they are healthy and in good shape before I buy.

Johnny, looking worried, said, "Dad, I think the window cleaner wants to buy Mam." Just thought I'd distract myself for a while.

I have been the same with Izzy (my beautiful pooch) as she has been unwell. Vet says she has an infection in her rear so is on anti biotics for a week. I can fully understand how worried you are about Hollie and I do hope she is soon much better. It's your choice with the ciggys nobody else so don't go on a guilt trip, sometimes we put too much pressure on ourselves.

Sonsafc profile image
Sonsafc in reply to vere

Here, it's not a guilt trip. My daughter Angela as tried refusing me to see my grandchildren if I didn't pack them in. That didn't work, so I think it's because I won't too this time around. Hope your pooch is ok soon.

Get a packet of mints or make some fruit and veg nibble bits and have one instead of a fag .... this is a hard task but you will benefit from it soooo much and so will Hollie, who I hope makes a recovery, but you def need to get her to the vet if she isn't drinking, maybe a friend could take her ?? Keep us posted and chin up xx

Get an e-cig and quit without stress - I know it'll probably fall on deaf ears but there are now 2 million in the UK who have packed in the ciggies using a "vape". Good luck!

Hello Sonia.hooo!!!!really sorry about your little baby Hollie. I have 2 chihuauhas and a Little Pomeranian . Love them to bits. I realy do hope she'll get. Well soon. I myself was the same as you last night 6.30 am and I was still awake. Mind I was not under the stress that you had, I just couldn't sleep. Ended up playing Majhong. Excellent stress buster. Give it a try, it might just help you. I'm on the 4rth lot of antibiotics and steroids in the last 5 weeks. Had a flare up and I czant get rid of it. Starting to feel a bit better this morning, so I'm hoping this lot of meds will do the job. Will be thinking about you, hoping the vet can help little Hollie for you.I used to breed chihuahuas and I used to give them Nutri-Drops. Excellent reviver. I used to give it also when they were under the stress of whelping. You can get it on Amazon. Bit pricey, but well worth it. I allways keep a bottle in. Wish you luck. Suzanne.

Hi Sonia, it's suzanne again. Please take your little dog to the vet as soon as you are able. She sounds like she could have piometra. If she has never had puppies it can happen. It's a womb condition and around 6 yrs old it can happen. I don't want to scare you. Also check if she has a discharge. But I would take her to the vet asap. It is treatable but it must be caught early. Let me know how you both get on. And why don't you try e-cigs. The ones you have to put the oil in. Don't get the fag lookalike as most of them are pretty useless. Much cheaper also. I have packed up 4yrs now. I tried absolutely everything. I still have one each evening. Lol.

One of the reasons I eventually managed to give up smoking and it took several attempts, was because of my little dog. I read passive smoking can cause cancer in dogs, and saw her wincing at my smoke. It was the spur I needed as I didn't care much about myself.

Hope and pray all goes well at the vets for you. xxxx

It's one moment at a time to one minute at a time to one day at a time. You can do it! Those little ones are so precious. Pucker up to give Hollie a kiss instead of puckering up for a fag. 😂 Love ya, dear.

Thank you evey one for your kind words and positive feedback about the fags. Hollie, I'm pleased to say as perked up. She as drank a little, and urinated, so I feel she is not dehydrated. She ate one bit of chicken. She is also moving around and wanting petting. That's more like herself. I'll keep observing her.

I was given 2 yrs to live back in 2009 I was addicted to fags totally! I was 47 then, it was the big shock talk I needed I was diagnosed with Alpha One Antitrypsin Deficency genetic emphysema, out the blue, overnight and after a life time of great health! The biggest shock I ever had was going from fit young woman to struggling to breathe one! I was diagnosed in 07 and carried on smoking because quitting is the hardest thing you will ever do as a smoker.. so empathize with everyone trying here totally. They say its harder than heroin I believe that. I went on to e cigs and I came back from 22% fev to 42% fev today 8 yrs later I am 55 and 39% fev...that said they are harmless only nicotine no crap like the cigs so pure I know many feel they are not proven recently went to RBrompton for a trail evulation and I informed them I smoke e cigs to date, they were not in the least concerned, good enough reason to get on them if your not already I would be dead without them buried 8yrs back...good luck with your little doggie ..I got dogs too which is another reason I quit the smokes because I needed a push to get out the door and learn to walk again after being housebound over 2 yrs unable to breathe..good luck, get a good brand e cig like Totally wicked.. best and superior to many from China and safe, opps they are from USA... good luck but quit those devils or you will quit life no mistake. :)

Thx Flo for your honesty. You have had it pretty rough. However your defiance and strong mentality as seen you through them dark days. Like you, I realised that I wouldn't be able to take Hollie out to exercise her. She may be a Chihuahua, but she can walk around 10 mile. I've done it(in the past) with her and a friend. Of course now I only manage about 30mins at mist with her. She is back to normal today ( thank the Lord). So we are going out now for a walk.

Hi Sonia

I smoked for 50 years or more but when I was diagnosed with Fibrotic NSIP and my breathing started to get worse and worse, I thought to myself, what is more important, smoking or living and seeing and being with my family, it is a no brainer. I know it isn't easy to stop, but you have to really want to do it, then that alone makes it easier, I am sure you can stop if you really put your mind to it.

All the best Vyner

I was on them 6 months continuously before they worked and stopped completely.

Sonsafc I quit smoking using nicorette quick mist, it is 4 years this month. A little spray in your mouth and within 30 seconds your craving is gone. Even better than E-cigs because nothing goes into your lungs.

You mention praying about your dog Hollie. Don't know if you really pray or if it is a saying, but pray for help with quitting the smoking. Prayer works.

Sonsafc profile image
Sonsafc

Hi, Semibreve. I meant it literally. Yes I do pray for the strength to give the fags up too. Only we don't always get what we want immediately. A week later and im still smoking 3 a day. I need to get beyond these 3 fags. As of next week I 'll drop 1 at a time. Hopefully by the end of next week I'll have managed to get smoke free. After smoking around 25/30 cigs a day to 3 is a big achievement for me, im proud of myself. Onwards and upwards.
