A quick hello.

Hello, I signed up today because my partner is going for a breathing test on Friday. He has been unwell since Christmas and we thought it was the coughing virus that was going around but he didn't get much better. He's had two courses of antibiotics and three five day courses of steroids. His chest X ray came back clear. He hasn't smoked for five and a half years but uses a vape.

I know it's premature but his GP told him the breathing test is for copd and he'd be very surprised if it wasn't that.

I'm so worried. I just wanted to share really.

We're in a long distance relationship, I'm in Manchester and he's in Peterborough so it's not like I can be there for him. Physically anyway.

Hello Hobbes and welcome to you. Sorry to hear about your partner but it's a good thing that his problems are being taken seriously. I hope the breathing test goes ok on Friday and he actually soon finds out what is wrong. Please let us know. Xxxxx

Thank you Pam. It's just all rather scary at the moment. This week is going to drag I think. Xxx

I know it's hard, but try not to worry. Look upon it as a condition that can be managed, if it is COPD. Don't believe what Mr Google has to say! XXX

Lol thanks. I actually said to my partner not to Google it too much. Didn't stop me though. It really is good to talk and I appreciate all the kind words. If it is copd then I will definitely recommend this site to him. Xxx

Hi nice to meet you. Even if it is copd, if he has not had any other symptoms, it would probably be mild. At this stage he would have many years of healthy living yet. There is lots of info on here about it, on the NHS site and also Patient.uk. Stick to sites like these otherwise you will frighten yourself to death!

We have new people coming in here in a panic saying they only have 5 years left coz Dr google has told them. We are the ones who live with lung disease and we have many on here with severe stage copd and they are going nowhere soon. I was diagnosed as mild 9 years ago now and am still mild. My doctor told me something else would get me first ie old age long before this did. So unless your husband wants to live til 120....

The majority here do have copd though we have every other lung disease under the sun. x

Thank you too. His last doctors appointment was yesterday when he got a steroid inhaler and he says he feels better already. I am feeling a bit more optimistic about it but I suppose it won't properly hit us until he gets a diagnosis. From what the doctor said he's pretty sure it's copd but I'm still hoping he's wrong. It's such an umbrella term though so until we get the results we're in the dark. All the replies are helping a lot though and I'm so glad I joined here.

It's good to hear you are still mild after all those years. Hopefully it'll be mild for him too. He doesn't always get breathless and does seem better than at Christmas but it's mainly the very bad cough (no phlem) headaches and sweating in the night.

Maybe he is going through the male menopause? :p x

Haha I really hope so. Though i don't think I've had mine yet so if we clash it might be 'fun'. 😁

Been through mine and I wouldn't call it fun :( It's great afterwards though as you can wear white trousers again :D x

Well I've not been toobad the last couple of days but today my partner is feeling breathless and coughing again. He's still got two days left of the steroids and he has a steroid inhaler he has to take two puffs of twice a day. His breath test is Friday and I'm worried at what level he'll be diagnosed at. Will he always feel like this?
