  • know how you feel jacko try some breathing exercising deep breathing then letting it out slowly also honey and lemon hot drink and just relax sod the mess just get better

  • Thanks Jack is it ok just calling you jack? I've never tried the lemon and honey , It's sounds nice to be honest anything's worth a go. I get frightened my lungs are going to be so full of this liquidy type mucus it's going to suffocate me. On on my own with my kids and they need me well. I've been fighting with this disease for years. Actually my doc said to me a few months ago now which has stuck with me. He said well Marie you no you've had a really good run. Maybe so but my kids need me ,they only have me to depend on. O M G sorry this has turned into an essay, you can tell I don't go out or see anyone much. 😊

  • i am in the same boat as you jacko and finding that this drink helps also been taking omega 3 fish oil capsules and felt a bit better i stoped them for a while but got worse so i went back on them and felt better again im not fully mobile but try to go out every day even for 3 to 4 minutes sometimes forcing myself some days and do feel better later later on i think it moves the mucus about but try to do what suits you and experiment a bit good luck to you gary

  • lemon and honey is fantastic...drink as much as you can,

  • Sending positives!!! Try to relax and let it pass. I know it is uncomfortable. will go away!!! Soon I hope!

  • Thankyou☺

  • I drink 1 tsp on of vinegar with 2 teaspoons of honey in hot wate w times a day. It us very valances our alkalune/acid balance. Hi alkaline is healing

  • Also half a tea spoon of bicarbonate of soda in warm warm water 2 to 6 times a day will make your body alkaline but in some people they can get a lot of wind which may restrict breathing so a little omega 3 or cod liver oil normally settles it down. All the best.

  • Positive vibes and healing energy on the way to your poor clogged up self. Just try and force yourself to switch between restful recharging and easy exercise with deep breathing.

    Big hugs!

  • I was feeling just the same as you are now, but on the road to recovery now. Hope you feel better soon 😊 xx

  • Glad your feeling better, it's great talking to people in the same situation as you. Thanks damon

  • Hey Jacko things will improve i am an impatient patient and expect mucus to start clearing as soon as , have bronchiolitis and still struggling with getting over pneumonia which i have had since Boxing day but the bonus is that i wake up each morning and look towards the positive things. Do some deep breathing lying on your right side breath in and protrude your stomach hold for 2 counts then breath out as heavily as you can by holding your stomach in, and breathing out of your mouth and breathing in through your nose only. His should help you to bring up some of the mucus on your chest .alternate the moves i.e first on left hand side then lay on your right hand side do this at least four times morning and evening.

I had to let my housework go as i felt to ill to cope with it, but eventually got to do some.

I hope this will help as positive thought brings positive action. Good luck and good health to you.x

  • Thanks,I'll give those a go ,I remember doing some like that when I was in hospital.😊

  • Aaaah will go...sometimes it takes longer. Try to ignore what is happening around you. That is material stuff and it doesn't matter. Look after you.

Drinking plenty not too cold tap water should help thin down the mucus. Stand up tall if you can - try slow deep breathing alternating with fast shallow breathing for a few minutes. Give it a rest, take a drink and then try again. Hope it helps to shift some of it. It's worth having a go.

  • Thanks Jennifer. Water that isn't really cold out the tap,?? I drink loads of cold water ,just isn't doing what I want it to . For some reason th9s infection seems different to all the others. Maybe I'm panicking a bit.I no I shouldn't. Easier said than done.☺

  • Maybe boil it and let it cool down Jacko. Mine takes a few seconds to become really cold from the tap. This last virus has been a particularly nasty one that has a habit of letting you think it has gone but comes back with a vengeance. If you are still unhappy, do go back to your surgery, you may just need another dose of antibiotics:-)

  • DON'T drink water straight out of the tap! Firstly the chlorine in it wipes out beneficial gut bacteria and secondly, it really isn't good for you, especially if you live in an area where the water is flouridated!!

  • Sending you lots of positive vibes, I have been like you and thought I would never recover but in time I did, and you will too. Sending you lots of love and hugs for a steady recovery. x

  • Thank you so much xx

  • Hey Jacko

Stuff the housework.... Concentrate on yourself.....

Mine has dragged on for 6 weeks, then a couple of days ago, l woke up and felt a bit brighter, yesterday the same, and again today. πŸ˜‚

You will get better, it just takes time to run its course.

Keep yourself warm and hydrated....Take your Meds....Try to rest, and before you know it, you will be waking up one morning thinking , I feel a bit brighter today !!😁

    I hope it's soon for you 🌷

  • Sending you love and good wishes Jacko and hope things do improve for you soon. Take care xxxx

  • Hi,. Like Velvet mine has gone on and on and on .Can't remember anything as bad as this but Am feeling much brighter in my self now ...... it will improve just have faith.

  • Hi Jacko, As you are producing more mucus after two courses of amoxicicillin it seems that you are on the wrong antibiotic. Your GP should send off some sputum to find out exactly which bug you have and then you can have a strong dose for at least 14 days of the right antibiotic. Do try to get the mucus out every day. It helps to stop the infection feeding on itself.

  • Hi,

I was going to say exactly what still standing said. You may be on the wrong abs. Take a sputum first thing tomoz to see what the infection is sensitive to. This one may be resistant to amoxycillin.

I had exactly the same problem and had around 3 courses of abs. When it didn't shift I sent a sample as felt really fed up and I was right to. It grew a some bug and I was treated effectively.

Have been infection free since and that was about 2-3 months ago

    Hope you feel better soon

  • my doc when i got ill like that wld give me 3 lots of anti bi s all in 2 weeks to make sure they got it sorted i know how you feel pal but you only have one choise fight fight fight

  • Hi Jacko. Take heart. It does go but this particular infection is a nasty one. I had it for five weeks. One day you will wake up and think" Not QUITE as bad today" and then gradually it goes. Not sure antibiotics work - it might be viral. Water, honey/lemon seemed to help me. Positive vibes heading your way!

  • keep strong I have had it since Christmas but am now finally starting to feel better ..I thought it would never go but it is starting to now ..I found fishermans friends helped a little ..when it was really bad I used to cut one in half and keep it in my mouth ..also for some reason camomile tea seemed to help and it is a natural calming ingredient ..x

  • Sorry you're feeling low, the only reassurance I can offer is that our weather will improve as we go into March, the damp and cold will recede as will much of our illnesses. We've just been through a dreadful winter for those of us with chest problems, thank God it's almost over.

  • I know the feeling. It is frustrating When you just cannot shake the infection. I hope you get better really quick.

  • Sending positive advise! Ask them for Ciproflaxin I went on these in 2012 after the worst infection on my journey they work, I can't even think about taking the cillin range of drugs like smarties! ..I will put a link on them, usually feel the difference within 2 days its a 7 day course, I am extremely severe lung patient with AATD not much lung area left but cope well with these drugs and they are essential if your ongoing on infection rate also Azthromycin could be prescribed you if your suffering ongoing reoccurring infections 3 x weekly I was put on these around 5 yrs back I take them mostly winter they all hellp...A Lung Consultant will need to authorise the long term anti's... good luck.

  • Hi flo1, thanks for responding, I've not been on line for a few days ,just not felt well enough. Anyway since my last post I have been put on doxycycline and have put in a sputum test. Just waiting for results. The mucus is starting to come up a little better at long last. Thank the Lord ,I was getting worried. I am also on azthromycin 3 times a week on a regular basis.I'm in the process of being assessed for transplant atm I need to get well and get some exercising done. Fingers crossed for me flo1 and take care.x

  • The chest infections around this winter have been horrendous, I had 9days in hospital at the start of the year with one and then picked up another when I came home. For the first time in 15 years of chest problems I have to use oxygen when moving around. A right pain to say the least....

  • Sorry to hear you now have to use oxygen, I hated it when I started using it ,in fact I still do but also appreciate it, I'd be knackered without it Literally.😀

  • Hi jacko, a month ago I was in the same position. Today I am 200% better than I was. We are all different so what I did may not work but it did for me. 1. Amoxicillin is so frequently prescribed, it is almost useless for many people. My new doctor gave me a much stronger antibiotic. 2. The exercise regime already mentioned really does help. There are videos available on YouTube. 3. DOUBLE check the way you are using inhalers. I discovered that with just a small change to my technique is improved my situation. 4. I purchased some Mullein Leaves from the internet. You make up an infusion like tea, with Mullein, honey and hot water. This is drunk like tea. Supposed to be very effective in release mucus from the lungs. Hope any of this is useful to you. I know the frustration. I couldn't even putting on my socks or clothes without a flare up 4 weeks ago. Ian

  • Thanks for your response to my post Ian I'm doing a little better, I'm now on doxycycline, I'm waiting on my result of my sputum test . I think I'm an expert in using my inhalers lol. I'm desperate to start exercising again . I need to build up my strength as I'm in the process of being assessed for transplant. I haven't tried the drink yet ,but I will look into the mullein leaves on the internet as I've never heard of them before and I'm intrigued. Thanks.x

  • WARNING. I seldom make warnings unless I am 100% convinced that they are authentic. If you suffer from a chest condition like COPD, under NO CIRCUMSTANCES use Lucozade. The, so called, health drink is banned in the US and several countries in the EU. The colour it uses E100 and E110 is known to cause flare ups of COPD and has also resulted in three deaths from asthmatics.

  • Wow I'm shocked, I haven't used it since I was a little girl . Thanks for info.

  • Thanks for that tip, must remember to tell family & friends cos that is what they would think to bring me to drink when I'm poorly, I will also pass on the E numbers cos they could be in other drinks.

  • Try getting some carbocisteine to liquefy the mucous, you get get either tablets or liquid, does help. Be positive as much as you can, it will improve, just takes so long! 😏

  • In terms of breathing exercises and plenty of water I can only add: ask your GP or Respiratory Team if a referral for a Pulmonary Rehap course would be possible. Meantime, the support you're getting here is from people, like me, who've gone through the same dark wood and emerged into the light, so you see Jacko the only thing to fear is losing the ability to think and see positively. Go for it kid.

  • Thanks for your response, I've done pulmonary rehab myself many times. I've never been more desperate to do it atm though. I am being assessed for transplant and I desperately need to get well so I can work on building up my strength. Thanksx

  • If I was you ,first thing I'd ask gp for different antibiotics ,I used to have Amoxicillin as my rescue antibiotics,,,,the last time I was prescribed them it was 500 mg 3 times a day ,,,,,no improvement,,,so was given 1000 mg 3 times a day for 2 weeks ,,, still nothing changed , then I was prescribed doxycycline,, ( yes they made me sick but took anti sickness pills ) ,job done ,I wouldn't take amoxicillin again ,,

In the mean time try breathing in through the nose ,,,hold ,,,then out through the mouth for as long as you can ,,,yes you will probably cough but that's the idea ,,,to get the rubbish up from deep down in your lungs ,go on you tube it shows you how to do the deep breathing Chest clearance properly ,,,, nice hot lemon and honey ,best wishes ,

  • Great advice Thank you so much, I'm now on doxycycline my mucus is starting to lift with the help of breathing exercises , just waiting on results of sputum test, but think I'm on the right track now. Thank god.x

  • Hi jacko72

It's foxy79 I feel for mate I was in it myself since 6 Dec till 3 days ago feel much better I have asthma copd broncecictsis respiratory type 2 on Bibep 24/7 oxygen it's so hard to maintain and infection is with me al the time my advise will be first see your nurse of consultant give your sputum soo they can give you right antibiotics cause you might need different ones after soo long your body starts resisting antibiotics there is ciprofulcilin and clarymitcin strong antibiotics and you need sulbutmol and mucuclear nebuliser and fresh air everyday for 15min x2 for 10 days you will see the difference my friend but to treat it you have to know what is wrong what bug is it for that you need to give sputum so it can be analized at lab this is a example of mines each people body works different more longer you leave you suffer I hope my idea might be able to help jacko72 take care

  • Thanks foxy 79.x

  • My pleasure good if I could have been helpful to you take care mate hope things work out for you

  • I reckon it is this year's special bug - I went down post Christmas, had to canbcel a winter is Spain and now after a sputum test am back on co-amoxicllin. I don't feel bad and the mucus is slight. I'll give the amox its week and then get another sputum test - my bet is it will still show up as it is obviously a virus and I will end up on anti-virals! Which is not the lift you wanted but a pain shared can be a pain halved - well maybe.... :-)

  • i to have had a prolonged infection, which is very tiring, i did a sputum sample, they found it was a more serious infection than the usual that make the rounds, on stronger antibiotics, get yourself checked in case you need something stronger too, hope you are better soon x

  • Oh Marie, so sorry to read this, the doctors comments were disgraceful. I really do hope you find some answers, I have been looking at the replies because my partner is in the same situation as you, once the antiobotics and steriods don't work then your on your own - absolutely typical of the medical profession.

    Hope you bounce back soon

    Best wishes

    Debs xx

  • well it must feel like you are living in a new house if it is upside down.Do you have trouble sitting at the table?Get well soon from Downunder.

  • Lol πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  • Hi Healing Hugs on there way to you , I often get like you for months at a time ,leaving me exhausted, & having to sit up at night cause of chocking, so you are not alone. Listen to what your body is telling you &I drink lots & lots ,I find iced water helps me as I have a cough all the time. Good luck . Keep your Spirits Up.

  • Thankyou

  • Well Jacko72, I just spent the last 9 days in hospital after a persistant cough that drove me crazy and ended up really pulling a muscle on my left side, this lung problem had been going on since last December and had they done a sputum test then they would have found the culprit that was lurking. So even though I had been given Amoxicillin and prednisolone, it did not clear up and then in January I ended up in hospital for 3 days, but no sputum test was done, DUH..... so again another batch of Amoxicillin and prednisolone, still did not clear up the breathing problem, back to see GP and was then given Augmentin and prednisolone, but still no luck in clearing up the issue. So then the cough got really really bad 14 days ago and I ended up being taken to A&E. This time I insisted on having a Sputum Test carried out in order to find out why I was not respsonding to treatment.

The longer the problem continues the worse it becomes for afgfecting your lungs in a negative way, so this time they cam back with the results of a Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection and thus allowing them to formulate the correct treatment that was required.

I am hoping to now get back on to my Pulmonary Rehab Program that got interupted with all this unnecessary wasted time.

Jacko72, Ask for a Suptum Test and see what they can find for you, it is time that something positive is done for you.

I really wish you well my friend as I know you must be really suffering.

  • Hi,lovejoyliz I haven't been on for a couple of days I wasn't feeling up to it. Thank you for responding I'm so glad you got there in the end but it's terrible you had to suffer for so long. Thank god you got through it. I have put a sputum test in on Tuesday, should of got my result today but they aren't in yet. Looks like it will be Monday now. In the meantime they have now tried doxycycline see if they do the job. Because my lungs are so poorly now I am so frightened they carnt handle a nasty infection . I still have fight left me. So I'll keep fighting on. Take care lovejoyliz.x
