Hi, my OH is 60 in a couple of weeks and suffers from COPD, I was thinking about getting him a glider flight as a surprise, but suddenly thought whether this would affect him/or his breathing,? Has anyone had any experience of this?

Not done this for Pete but you could enquire with the glider company and explain the situation. Hope your hubby gets to do it anyway. Xxx

Hello BusNut

My husband is addicted to all forms of flight and over the years l have given him various trips for presents...Starting on Concord and his last one in a Tiger Moth...He has done the lot.

He said one of the most thrilling ones was when he went up in a glider.....The silence, and peace of not having an engine ringing in your ears.

He doesn't have COPD, so it wasn't an issue.

I would think the best thing you could do, is check with the GP, and the Flight company before you purchase it.

The altitudes the glider goes to are not excessively high, so unless your husband is very severe, the pressure drop may not be a problem, but obviously he must get the all clear for peace of mind.

I do hope he gets his trip, it's a wonderful present, and he will love it.

As for Mr V's next birthday ( 70 this year ) ...Well the only thing he hasn't been up in is the Space Shuttle !!

xx

The last time I flew it made me eyes water. Wifey caught me eating all the Pork Pies and booted me up the bum. I rose rapidly to an altitude of three feet and didn't have time to deploy me parachute so the resulting heavy landing was quite painful.😳😬😬😬

Thank you Lord for Tramadol.🙏💊😳😂

Ah bless you velvet55, thank you for your advice and I will take it on board (excuse the pun). As far as the space shuttle is concerned I am sure the thought is very tempting sometimes. 😉

If he's mild to moderate it won't be an issue.
