My Doctor has me taking one puff twice daily, one when waking and one when going to bed. This seems to be working well for me. Also a singular at bedtime.

I use Spiriva. Does your GP know that the Patient Information Leaflet states that
"The effects of this medication lasts for 24 hours, so you only need to take it once a day" and
"Do not take Spiriva 18mcg more frequently than once daily" and
"If you inhale from more than 1 capsule of Spiriva 18mcg in a day, you should talk to your doctor immediately. You may be at higher risk of experiencing a side effect such as dry mouth, constipation, difficulties passing urine, increased heartbeat, or blurred vision".
My nurse showed me how to use it, after the first inhalation she said to take a second one about 20-30 seconds later to ensure all the contents of the capsules had been inhaled. I find that the first inhalation seems to empty the capsule OK though, but still do the second one just in case there is any powder left.
Dead right Susie, that's my dosage too but I think doctors happily bypass the blurb depending on the patients' needs. Thank you for passing on your nurse's advice - I sometimes have a few grains drop out (I always open them to check) so I'll be doing that.
You think that would be standard advice wouldn't you, about the two inhalations.
I used to open mine to make sure it was all gone. Some days I have more sucky power ( 
) than others, so I always do the two inhalations to be sure, to be sure (it's a bad joke day today )
That is the exact advice I was given Suzy.
That's what I was told when I was on spiriva. And also to take your Blue inhaler 10 minuets before the others to open your tubes. And if you take more than one preventer to take them 10 minuets apart .

Is there any reason for the faffy pack design? I just run my thumbnail round as with any other capsule or pill. Read on here a few weeks back that someone swallowed one with no ill effects, which cheered me no end as I've come within seconds of doing the same thing myself, so maybe it's a device to concentrate the mind.
Perhaps Cadoh is using Spiriva Respimat. The recommended dose is two puffs daily.

Yes it is but I believe they are to be taken together just like with the handihaler. Perhaps there was some miscommunication as all I have ever seen with Spiriva it two puffs once daily as opposed to one puff twice daily. It could easily be misunderstood.

My dosage for the Spiriva Respimat is 2 puffs taken simultaneously in the morning to last the full 24 hours.
Yes, two puffs once a day is correct but in my experience doctors sometimes change these instructions. Either the doctor misunderstood or felt splitting the dose would be more appropriate for Cadoh. I just wanted to point out that if it was Spiriva Respimat, then she needn't fear she was overdosing by taking two puffs. Whichever one she's taking, it would be a good idea to read the leaflet and speak to her doctor.
What is the difference between respimat and handihaler? Why would one be prescribed over the other?
