Hi Everyone, I went to see the Respiratory Nurse at my surgery but she couldn't do my blows because I was so short of breath and I haven't finished my Cipro, there has to be a gap of two weeks after finishing the tablets. She asked me to go back the next day for my blood test (the samples had already gone off to the Path. Lab. for that day). She couldn't get any blood from my left arm, she was really 'digging' and it hurt, so she tried my right arm and was successful but then the room started swimming and I said that I was going to faint, she obviously called some help because when I came round (I was still sitting in my chair) there were other people in the room. Anyway, they raised my legs onto a chair and gave me some water and I soon recovered, a Doctor then came in and looked at my notes and prescribed some more Prednisolone to take alongside my remaining Cipro tablets, so let's hope they do the trick and I soon feel back to my usual self.

Oh Lizzy I am so sorry to hear you are feeling so low and weak at the moment. Lets hope when the Cipro starts to work you will pick up strength . Sounds like you overdid it a bit that day . Try as hard as you can to get any gunk off your lungs with breathing exercises, that always helps your breathing improve a bit, if you can get stuff up. Do they get you to 'pump your vein up' before they try to take blood out? my veins are really hard to get blood out of, and so I pump my hand really hard when they tie the band around my arm before they try to take blood, and that always seems to help them find a good vein.
Hi Sohara, the nurse told me to relax my arm which is very strange as I usually have to at least clench my fist but when you are in their hands you do as you are told. I've only had this happen to me once before and that was when I had a canula put in, I'd had several before so why this one was different I don't know.
I used to be needlephobic but I've got used to it now and don't worry as I've had so many 'little scratches'.

What a horrible time you had. Let's hope the medication kicks in very soon, and you can start to feel much better and recovered enough to take the test again in a while.
Sorry to hear about your experience- yes, it's scary- I've only been diagnosed since June of 2016 & took large amount of prednisone now down to 10 mg. a day- but taking 1,000 mg of mycophenalate 2 times a day-as well; I do feel better- but still so out of breath. Until you get here- you don't realize how many are suffering with this ailment- I didn't. I'm sending you prayers & hope. Blessings are all around us... we didn't even know.
So true it is a hidden disease even us suffering with it dont tend to talk about it ,That is why it is so nice to read and learn from everyone on this site x
To right Tugun, the nurse was talking about me going back next week to see a Doctor, another trip into town, but then I got to see one anyway so that was good.

Hi soulsaver, yes more Prednisolone but this time for a longer period and on a reducing scale so should be O.K. The Nursxe didn't say anything about going back to do my blows, I think she was fed up with me taking up so much of her time when she wanted to get off for lunch! I may get a letter when the penny drops but I go to Papworth for a check up on 9th February and my results will be forwarded to the doctor. Thank for getting in touch. Take care, Love Lizzy xx
Oh dear skinnylizzy59 - your post reminded me of a doctors appointment, not so long ago,which was for the usual spirometry's etc etc,but any blowing I did,didn't register (?) and also broke two blood vessels in my right eye! Suffice to say,the chief doctor was summoned, he repeated the spirometry,with no better results and was unable after several attempts, to even take bloods! Disastrous. So referred to local hospital. Of course I had to wait 3months for that appointment and bloods taken,spirometry's done with no real shock when my results showed a decline in my FEV1 @23%. My Lovely Respiratory Nurse now demands I see her and not bother with the local Doctors!!! Along time coming and I have to say I'm glad. I do hope you never have such an awful experience again. Hi SquirrelsHolt, I think we've all got a tale tell about a visit to the doctor and their apparent incompetence, it's just all the time everything takes and the travelling and organising everything that seems to escape 'those in authority's' awareness.

hi liza...sometimes the lab can't find my vein and they told me i need to drink a lot of water before the test. also use a "butterfly" needle ...kid's.
it really hurts when they dig around looking for it!!!! have a good day. mooskie
Hi mooksie, I don't usually have a ;problem having bloods taken but some nurses are a bit more heavy handed than others! I usually have a butterfly at Papworth and the 'little scratch' is just that. Thanks for getting in touch. Take care, Lizzy xx
