Hi Chezzy. It is amazing what the human body can adapt to. Why not ring the BLF nurses tomorrow morning on 03000 030 555 (office hours)? They are all respiratory nurses and will be able to offer an educated opinion to try and help you and your mum.

I agree with what mrsmummy has replied so hope the BLF nurses can help.

Sending good wishes to you and your mum. Take care Chezzy. Xxxx

That is just nuts! anything below 90 is hard on the organs to the best of my knowledge. Please let me know what you learn...

Is your mum on oxygen. If so can't help. I am not on oxygen but if my o2 level was that low I would be sent to hospital to be put on it. And would be there till my O2 was back to being between 92 and 88 Or higher 92 and 88 is the normal level for someone with COPD. I have to phone my CRT if my O2 level goes below 91

Different people have different 'normals' and these are often lower than 88 where there is CO2 retention.

Thankyou I have been in touch with the British lung foundation and they have said yes it is low but because mum is non compliant with the home oxygen because of her Alzheimer's their isn't anything anyone can do now just to make mum comfortable as much as possible thank you

I can only go on what I have been told and at the hospitals I have attended that is the Figures they go by. It has been many years since I had to be. Admitted to hospital for low O2 levels. At one point you had to be admitted if O2 level was below 93. But that has now been changed

Hi, Nottobad. I am a 'retainer' and my consultant aims for 86% - 89% for me. I know that our late member Puff (the magic dragon) had his norm set at 86-88 for the same reason and could only use 1 lpm ambulatory oxygen though he needed much more. We are all so different aren't we?

Yes we are all very different. I don't use oxygen. So I don't know the levels for someone on oxygen. I did say that in my first reply

Hi nottobad

I take it you have an Oximeter that u use to monitor your oxygen. All the medical people I have contact with advise getting an Oximeter as they reckon the readings are so uncertain and would cause me anxiety

Hi,

This is my first post as I have only found out about this service via a contact made at my Pulmonary Rehabilitation Exercise Class.

I can only give my own experience in that my O2 readings at rest without Oxygen is between 89 - 96, but as soon as I move ie walk or 'exercise ' it will browse to between 69 - 74! I am on Long term Oxygen Treatment since Feb 16 & with level 3 my Oxygen is between 98 - 88 for both exercise & rest. We are all different & I have learn't, through experience what is right for me. I am ignorant as to the 'illness' of Retention, could anyone please explain what it is.

Thank you

Markrh😐
