I still can only use the Fostair inhaler before going to bed as the side effects I get taking it during the day are still bad.
I have found, doing some Googling, that there is a dry powder version of Fostair called a Nexthaler .
Is this available on the NHS and does anybody have any experience of using it.

I use Fostair NEXTHaler which is available on NHS, and as you say is a dry powder inhaler.
Since changing from Seretide I have no problems.
Take two puffs twice daily.
Speak to your respitory nurse there are more alternatives, and they will monitor you during any change over, ( at least mine did)

Like Stone, I was switched to the Fostair Nexthaler (2 puffs twice a day), from Cyclesonide & Formoterol in October 2016, the only side effect I found is a dry mouth. Also as I record my peak flow night and morning, I found that it has gone up to 500+ most days, on my other meds I had not been that high for 3 or 4 years.
Do you mind if I ask what your peak flow had been on the other inhaler prior to Fostair? That is great if you have seen a consistent improvement.

I was on Cyclesonide (Alvesco), Formoterol (Axis), Tiotropium (Spiriva), Ventolin (Salbutamol), I am also on Omalizumab (Xolair injections)
My peak flows were 400-430 and 470 on a good day, I would have to take action if I dropped below 380.
Since being on the Nexthaler (Fostair) I have been between 500 - 550 4 days this week, and 500+ at least 3 days a week since I started in October 2016.
Thank you for the reply and that is certainly impressive. Do you have both asthma and COPD, or primarily just one? Have you also had your FEV1 checked before and after the change to Fostair as it would be interesting to know if there was also improvement there.

I would love to get copies of my spirometry tests, but I can never get them.
That is very unfortunate as I think a person has the right to know that information.
Do you have asthma or COPD or both as from my limited understanding your PEF with asthma is more responsive to inhalers than in COPD.
I was told it is asthma, they put me onto Tiotropium inhaler, which is normally for COPD because at the time I was on the highest meds for Asthma and I was still having problems. I did manage to get 1 print out from my spiro test but they have not had the machine there for the last few visits to get a comparison.
Yep I have got a Nexthaler and find it works very well for me. I was having problems with the inhaler that you have to push down and then inhale - due to arthritic hands. The Nexthaler is easy to use and I have had no problems with it.

I will be lucky if changing to a Nexthaler will remove the side effect I get, weak legs, but it may give a consistent dose.
I find with the puffer type that it looses its effectiveness when there is still 40 doses left
I have a nexthaler and am happy with it. I can see how many puffs I have left. No side effects. x
I have spoken to my nurse and she is happy for me to change to the Nexthaler . I will see if my GP will change me to it.
As I said I don't think it will help with side effect but hopefully the effectiveness will be stable over the dosage period
I have now got a Nexthaler from my GP and took two puffs last night and have just taken only one puff, to be on the safe side, this morning and now I'm waiting to see what side effects I get.
I am really getting on well with the Fostair Nexthaler. Not only are the side effects much less but it is also much much more effective.
I have been able to do a Spirometry test which normally I have not been able to do.
As my results are now showing that my COPD is only moderate the consultant has said that I don't need to be on Fostair and has suggested Anoro Ellipta.
So now I have found the best Fostair inhaler to use they are going to take me off of it GRJHHH. Not happy
Follow up -back to Fostair - hooray.
