Good morning Tryfan,

I like that.....I am trying to fill my head with another future learn course that I heard about on this forum. Trouble is what I learn goes in one ear and out of the other.

I like your username...Tryfan....any link to Snowdonia? My late father was part of a mountain rescue team there , many many years ago.

Hi Knitter. Yes, I live in N Wales. Recently moved from a place called Rhuallt near St Asaph to a more urban area - Conwy. Tryfan of course is one of the most Iconic mountains of Wales at 3010 14th highest. Have scrambled up it a few times. It always reminds me of a Stegosaurous lying on its side. Big pile of boulders heaped one on top of another.

Hill walking is something we still love to do. We have a group of like minded friends, Now all reaching the age when ailments sometimes stop us, but when we can, love nothing more than rambling around the hills and mountains not forgetting the coastline of Wales.

With your father in the mountain rescue, you must have come from these parts?

Best wishes.

David Jones aka Tryfan

No, South Wales originally, my father used to spend weekends in Snowdonia with his climbing club.

I remember climbing Cader Idris and my mother having a breathless attack near the top....we all got back down safely.

I have a painting of Snowdonia on my wall, as well as prints by Kyffin Williams though.

Many years ago my mum was given a brain scan as her docs weren't sure if she'd had a very minor stroke.

She came home and said 'everything's fine - they didn't find anything at all!'

She couldn't understand why we all fell about laughing...

When she realised what she'd said, she tried to be offended with our response, especially my dad's (I knew it!) but then couldn't stop laughing at herself.

That's lovely. I'm sure it has gone down in family lore. It improves with age and in the telling.

You're right. She never did live it down, but she took all the teasing very well.

It's funny how some things come back to you. My mum died some years later in 1991, and the house was sold in 1994 after my dad died too, but I can picture clearly exactly where my dad, my sister and I were sitting - at the table by the window - and where she was standing as she told us the good news that she had no problems.

And of course it was great news, so I think a lot of the laughter was relief and I know she understood that.
