I have the same problem😭 I am going to try a plant based diet this time Vegan. I'm gonna find the change hard as been a sheep and cattle farmer for 35 years!! However it is supposed to be good for lungs ... so worth trying. I've done all the others and Slimming World but as soon as you stop it piles on again 😢 So maybe a whole new way of eating might the the answer. Very similar to the Blood Sugar Diabetes diet.

You can get free recipes on both on the Web and by email too.🤗

I did a bit of weight loss in my own (fallen of the wagon while it's cold) but I got a fitbit set it to 10,000 steps and was calorie counting I consistently lost 2lb a week (just under 2stone in total) I found that potion sizes where my problem (it's surprising how easy it is to over eat) and because it's a change of mind if not put any of it back on even though I have been eating chocolate and such

in reply to Chip_y2kuk

Don't forget even thin people eat chocolate, cake and biscuits but they don't overdo it. I have heard too of being overweight even just eating healthy foods if you eat too much so portion size is always important. x

Yes but that was my point I would eat a whole bar of cadBury caramel as a snack and now I've lost weight and look at the calorries I'd still have some caramel but wouldn't eat the whole bar (which is thousands of calories)

And even when I wasn't being ridiculous (in my eyes at the time) I'd have a bowl (full) of breakfast cereal which is fruit and fibre but a full bowl is like 4 portions and some 1200 calories (nearly half a days worth)

I asked the GP for help - he said "put less in your mouth!" - I asked if he also advised drug addicts to stop injecting and smokers to stop lighting up!! Following his stupid (albeit, technically correct answer) another GP who appears to have common sense has arranged for me to attend a managed weight loss & training session over 13 weeks.

Worth asking your GP (unless you also have one with no common sense!)

Try the Cambridge diet, I lost 4 stone had a break and am now back on it to lose 1 more stone.

Use a smaller plate. Don't fry food every day. We all know about eating lots of vegetables, ......preparing them is therapeutic. Save sugary stuff for occasional treats. Eat fresh fruit but not too much because of the natural sugar content. Really it's using your common sense, but as the others have said, there is lots and lots of help on the internet. Above all, change your eating habits for a kick start.

You can do it if you want to help yourself, and there are lots of exercises you can do without leaving your seat. You don't give your age, but if you look on you tube you will find lots of ways to exercise without even leaving your chair, and small steps lead to bigger ones. Just have a look at this one -yes it is mainly for the elderly but very gentle and a good starting point for any age. Good luck.

Hi there, I think portion size is an easy way. They say carbohydrates put on weight also. If you find an easy way let me know as I have similar problems to you other health issues slow me down in respect of exercise. Keep my weight stable but have difficulty in reducing it even with extra exercise at rehab gym. All you can do is try your best . Good luck

hello pugs know exactly how you feel i use the nhs calorie counter on the net it gives you something to focus on which is what we need if your feel down it will allow you take back some of the control that the copd robs you off you can still have the food you like but in smaller amounts of them and fill up on low calorie foods put a pound in a box for every pound you lose you can treat yourself when you reach your goal and who do'sent like a treat hope to hear how your getting on

Slimming world seems to get good results. It has a good support group and it is a healthy eating plan, you can find your nearest group online. Good luck

I did Atkins years ago and took off 3 stone - more importantly it stayed off; this is because it wasn't so much a diet, more an eating plan for life. All of today's low carb diets are based on it and it was very important to take the supplements and drink the minimum 2 litres of water a day. Worked for me and (to a lesser extent) my son who lost just under 4 stone. He binges during the summer and has to go back to the "strict" rules afterwards.

Have a friend stay 24/7 and they can whack you round the head with a wet cod whenever they see you about to eat something. You might not lose weight but it will put you off fish for while.
