Sharp pain on left side of my ribs

I have a sharp pain on the left side of my ribs. It came out of no where last night and at first I thought I slept on it wrong but now it won't go away. I know it's only been a day but it's never happened before. The only relief I feel is if I'm laying on my right side

Hi Kaylee

Have you got a cough, or sneezed violently, if so you could have pulled a muscle, or even as l had the misfortune to do once, broken a rib.

The thing is I don't. I just woke up with the pain and it hasn't gone away. And I haven't done anything to break or fracture a ribe

If it carries on, l would get it checked out by your GP

Anything from pneumonia, a pulled muscle, a cracked rib or a collapsed lung, or other things can give chest pain. You really should check with your GP or give the none emergency number a ring and get some medical advice. If the pain gets worse then perhaps you should attend A & E.

Sounds like pleurisy to me but you can't muck about with chest pain - especially on the left side! It feels much like broken ribs (I've had both). My first pleurisy just appeared overnight too, thought I'd cracked a rib in my sleep. The GP can tell through the stethoscope, it makes a rasping sound.
