Hi Duncan, welcome to our forum. If you go to NHS.co.uk you can search & get all relevant information on pleurisy.

I believe it's caused by a virus but I would have expected your GP to have wanted to see you in person to listen to your chest. It's a painful condition.

Sorry to hear you have this & hope you get well soon.

Merry Christmas 🎄 🎅🏼🎁🎉

Pain is the main symptom! I hope you don't have it, but whatever, I hope you feel better soon and can have a happy Christmas. Sue x

You don't want to trip over and land on those nice knees. Have just realised you're new here - a warm welcome.🎄🙂

Hi Duncan, I sympathise, pleurisy is miserable & can be very painful. I've had it a few times but not for years. It's when the layers of pleura separating your lung from your ribs get inflamed & rub together, you get a sharp pain on one side when you breathe in. I hope it's only a mild episode & you feel better for xmas. Lying on the "bad" side supports it & helps you breathe better.

Ihad pleurisy a couple of years ago, it was a sharp pain when I inhaled, actually I had a rough time because first I had chronic bronchitis, pleurisy then my left lung collapse by the grace of God I got over it, I do remember the emergency room doctor prescribe 7 days of antibiotics and when I return to the ER 2 weeks later I was prescribed 10 days of antibiotics, I have moderate COPD and I'm not on oxygen as of yet. I'm glad that you're ok and I wish you a Merry Christmas
