Peak flow question?

Do you get higher peak flow readings if you inhale through your mouth first? Likewise does nasal inhaling cause lower peak flow readings?

Just tried both ways on my own peak flow metre and I get 300+ inhaling through my mouth, and 205 inhaling through my nose. It might be because it's awkward to swop from nose to mouth for the out blow. Be interesting to see what others say :)

I don't do peak flow very often, too depressing, but yes I get a higher reading if I suck in through my mouth.

It is depressing when you get low readings. I know mine PF metre is about 100 inaccurate on the optimistic side. My spirometry peak flow when done at the consultant's reads around 200 (inhaled through mouth) but i use mine to measure trends, e.g. going down when Im ill. And when Im well I can pretend it really is around 300 which makes me happy. :)

Using mouth or nose to breathe in makes very little difference for me, peaking just under 200 .

I've been using a P.F. meter for many years now. It's not what goes in but how well it comes out. Cheers.
