Hi Mike welcome to the site it all depends where you live my council will allow you a blue badge if you don't claim benefits.

Just because you don't claim benefits it doesn't mean your not disabled give your council a call and ask them.

Hi

Complete the form

gov.uk/apply-blue-badge

You will need proof from your GP, There most likely will be a face to face assessment,

Council have discretion to by pass this.

Hi Mike - I'm on my third blue badge and Ive never been asked to come for an interview, neither have i needed any proof from my doctor. You have to give the names of all the medical staff who are involved with you, doctor, consultant, respiratory nurse and your surgery etc etc, so theoretically they could get in touch but i don't think they usually do.

I don't know what stage you are at but it's certainly worth trying - keep a copy of the form so you know what you said on it, just in case they do call you in. When you are giving details write about how you are on your worst days. Good luck and let us know how it goes :)

Hi there Mike, i too have COPD . I am on PIP and have a blue badge as well. You will need to claim benefits though in order to qualify for a blue badge i believe. Check up on the "turn2us" website. You can enter your details and it will tell you what you are entitled to. Also the "benefits&work" website do wonderful guides to help you apply for the benefits you are entitled too. Good luck and fight for the help you feel you need, it can make such a difference to not worry about money etc all the time and get the help you require. Stay as well as you can❤️

You do not have to be on benefits to receive a blue badge.

You are right, my mistake. Of course as someone already stated you do not have to be on benefits to be disabled. Strange how the mind equates one with the other. I was being very subjective there as i could not have survived without help from benefits. Thank goodness that we have a system that helps when we need that help.

SORRY about wrong information.

Sorry i think i am wrong, you don't need to be on benefits to get the badge ( although i am sure it helped!) .

You don't need to be on benefits to obtain a blue badge but you do need to be able to walk less than 50 yards.

Yes you should be if you are not able to walk more than 15 metres. also get in touch with age concern as they will be able to help you find out if you are entitled to any benefits .

Good luck

My sister has mild COPD. She is 55 she works, she is getting low rate pip and had to go for blue badge assessment, no problem she got that as well. You have to make sure that assessors really understand your problem.

If you have difficulty with walking very far you should certainly be entitled to one, you could also see if you are able to claim Attendance Allowance as well.
