My mum has copd think it's later stage not sure but it's impacting her life can she get a blue badge or any benefits at all

Hi! It may be worth applying for a blue badge if your Mum is having difficulty getting out and about. I tried the online form first and found it really awkward so gave up. Then I got a paper copy from my local library (you can phone up and find out where to get one, or have it posted) and found it a lot easier to manage. You have to provide a couple of passport size photos and I couldn't seem to upload them so it was easier to pop them in the post with my £10 cheque and the form. They return the cheque if you don't get the badge.

I was a bit surprised to get my badge as I had to go for an assessment and I thought was walking quite well on that day. The assessor was quite astute and asked a lot of questions. She didn't lead my answers at all. It felt more like a chat reallly.

Getting my badge recently has already helped enormously.

As for benefits, I'm not sure. I didn't qualify for attendance allowance, but wasn't surprised. I just thought, 'They can only say 'no'' and gave it a try...and they DID say 'no'. Nothing lost by trying though.

You can look up benefits online but I'm sure people on here will have plenty of advice for you. They have certainly been helpful to me!

Hi Sharon, Ive had a blue badge since I was at the moderate state of copd (now severe). My has explained how to get the form if you can't download it from the net. Remember when filling it in to tell your mother to only describe the symptoms she has on her WORST days. Ive never had an assessment, but if your mother does have one, remember that they may be watching the carpark to see how mobile she is getting out of her car - just a thought. Good luck to her

Hi she might well qualify for ESA (sickness benefit) if she is not working and is under state pension retirement age. She might also qualify for PIP (personal independent payment) but this is based not on the illness but how it affects you.

I presume you are in the UK? If so google Govt.Uk to read all about available benefits. x

If you qualify for a blue badge, you can get a bus pass too.

If you get pip you automatically get blue badge and bus pass I got both and its only standard rate mobility I get

Meant i didnt know you could get a bus pass if you have blue badge

You should check with your local council as I have a free bus pass with a plus one and I don't have a blue badge as I don't drive I also have a taxi card.

You get discount on on taxi fares. I live in Edinburgh and I can use it with most of the taxi company's

Haven't heard of this, I get AA but theres no mobility with it unlike PIP. I spend a fortune on Taxis
