Just new to this website from Canada. Like the way information and support is given. Just recently diagnosed with mild/moderate emphysema. Turning 67 and just retired. On Sprivia.

None from me. I've been using it for 8 years with no problems at all.

Good to hear. My regular doctor thinks it is very helpful but my naturopathic Doctor likes a more natural approach.

My doctor changed my spiriva capsules to spiriva respimat which seemed to make me worse, Certainly did nothing for me, so I got him to change it back to the capsules as they do help me. I only use it when I really feel I need it.

I have not noticed side effects really but have only been on it for 15 days. Will certainly continue on it for time being. Trying some herbal teas that seem to also do the trick in keeping things in check in bronchial tubes.

I've been on it for five years with no ill effects. I was told by my copd nurse it was the creme de la creme inhaler. 😂😂

Thank you. I guess I am hoping that it will work for me as well.

Hi El13, Ive tried Spiriva and can't take it at all - it makes my mouth so dry that i literally can't speak (some might think that a good thing:D ). This side effect took around 3 weeks to show itself fully. But I think Im in the minority and it is very effective for many people - hope it works for you. (I also tried Seebri which is the same class of drugs (anticholinergics) and had exactly the same reaction.)

Since you're concerned with living well with copd, the most important thing is that you need to concentrate on exercise to maintain your muscles at maximum condition. Keeping as fit as possible will slow progression too. :)

Thank you. Just feeling my way around and coming to terms with everything. I am pretty active already and will continue to do so. Love your picture.

Thanks El13. It's hard to come to terms when first diagnosed but sounds like you're making a really positive start. I was diagnosed moderate in 2000 at 55 yrs and still going strong. It's better that your dx is in your 60s :)

That is encouraging. Have a few more things that I would like to do for sure. New grandchildren to play with.

New grandchildren - lovely :) Just try to keep away from them when they have colds or viruses. I know this is a dilemma for grandparents when they want to enjoy their g/children and show them how much they are loved, but it is a major source of infection and any infection can turn into a chest infection/exacerbation which can then compromise lung function.

Thanks. Have to remember to watch where I go for sure.

Good morning and I didn't mean to, but I doubled up over your comment about not being able to speak. You give sound advice too.

Great start to my day:-)

Good morning to you El13,

A warm welcome to the Site. I see you already have helpful replies to your query. I am not much use to you on this one, as I use Fostair, but I wish you all the very best with Sprivia.

Was on Spiriva for about four years and respiratory nurse said it wasn't effective with me any longer. Had various others since and just trying until one suits and is helpful to me! Sorry, not much help! You will get better replies on here as there are some very knowledgeable people. Best wishes.

Everything is helpful at this point. Love what people say who are experiencing similar conditions. Still dealing with emotional aspects but realize people do live well. Thank you. I hope you do something special for yourself today.

I had a very dry mouth and lost my voice the first time I was prescribed it, so I stopped taking it. I was persuaded to try it again and persevere for at least two months. The side effects suddenly disappeared, and I am better for using it. Been on it for two years now.

Thank you. Just seem to be a bit drier at night but CPAP machine is adjusting that. Have a great day.

Hi there, I have moderate to severe COPD and have been using the spiriva for several years now along with corsair. No problem at all to report with the spiriva but had to stop the forsair due to it having alcohol In it as I have liver cirrhosis due to previous infection of Hepatitis C. Cheers Ian
