My three now adult daughters had difficult to control asthma when they were young children....they are still asthmatic, but only use their Ventolin or Bricanyl occasionally now.

But they have allergic reactions to many things so have to be careful to avoid cats and dogs and small pets....and sawdust. Antihistamines help

Has your son had any allergy tests, have you noticed when his asthma gets worse .

Does he have a preventer inhaler. My youngest daughter when her asthma was extremely bad was allowed to go straight to the children's ward at any time to be treated .

Does his school know how to treat him when he has an attack, and do they make sure his inhaler is available when needed, and when to phone for help. My youngest was 999ed a couple of times from school., once from the swimming baths.....all three had problems with the chlorine.

As Stone says Asthma UK has a helpline ...I have rung them in the past.

Trying to keep him calm must be very difficult, especially when he is breathless. Is there a specialist asthma nurse in your doctors practice who can help you......ours was invaluable.

Best wishes .

My son has been tested for allergies and they want to test him again he allergic to everything the world can offer. His rescue inhalers aren't helping the school is giving me a hard time so hard I had to threaten them with lawyers n reporting them to the news crew his doctor wants to see him almost every day they are thinking about putting him in ICU I'm just so scared for him because he is adhd odd so it's harder to calm him down so his lungs don't over due them selves

Hello Yenanne,

I understand and sympathise about having a child with severe asthma. My daughter had it from the age of about 4, following on from infantile eczema. In those days, and where we lived out in the sticks, we never had any help or tests - it was just a case of get on with it, here is an inhaler with powder which sticks in the throat and makes her cry. A lady came to my house selling pegs and told me "She will have it no more at the age of 14".....and she didn't! It was like a miracle had happened overnight. I wish I could shake that lady's hand now. You don't say the age of your son, but I do wish you all the very best of help that there is available. You have it doubly hard.
