Are you allergic to pet hair, try and choose a breed that moults less.
Dogs can be a good companion, providing you can meet its needs in relation to walking etc.
No I'm not allergic to pet hair, I would be looking for a small non moulting dog, short walks ok with me and ok for all other needs. I heard that pet dander isn't good for Copd sufferers that is why I asked the question thanks anyway Pauline

hi the biggest problem with copd and a dog is the walking it, a big dog with a saddle be good lol
Just a small dog will be ideal a non moulting one and just needing short walks, heard pet dander isn't good for copd sufferers. Pauline
Hi Pauline. I have emphysema and have two dogs and two cats and wouldn't be without them. My dogs need walking regularly and this is a good reason for me to get some of the much needed exercise. As far as pet dander goes, a dog that doesn't moult much would be a good idea, although regular grooming keeps it to a minimum anyway. Good luck and I hope you will be able to give some lucky little dog it's forever home. The rewards are huge! XXX
Dander would only be a problem if you are specifically allergic to the flecks of shed skin, etc.
I agree with mrsmummy. I have a cat and take my sisters dog out a lot and I am not affected by it at all. x

I wouldn't worry too much...we have a little cat and a dog...neither seems to make any difference to me.

we have to labs one moults badly , doesn't affect me , when the copd nurse came to the house dressed in black uniform dawn went to take dog out the room nurse said no leave her she is lovely I said you will be covered in white dog hair she said its only a bit of hair im not bothered then she sat stroking the dog her legs was covered in it , she didn't seemed to bother what other patients after us would think ,

Pauline - my friend always had a big dog but now she can't cope with the long walks, she has an adorable non moulting small Apricot poodle. He has a smashing personality.
mmzetor she probably had one of those sticky rollers in her car - essential with a yellow Lab.....as we know. I've got one of those rubber scraper thingies for use prior to vacuuming, and the hair comes off in rolls, but there is always more. Love Labs - the moult is just a bonus. I bet most of the birds in this area have Merlin's hairs in their nests....I know for sure blackbirds and wrens

yes she may have done , we have no carpets we have all vinyl flooring which makes clearing the hair up easier , I love labs too but cant say im keen on the moulting especially if you are dressed up in black to go out some where , I didn't tell you what happened with jet the other day went into the bedroom the other afternoon looked at the door there were all marks on it to start with I thought he had scratched the paint work went to rub it and it was blood looked up the hallway it was sprayed all over the walls took ages to work out where it was coming from turned out jet had a little nick in his tail nothing to bother him but the more I try keep him to keep his tail still the more he waged it , walls doors looked like one of them modern paintings where the artist flicks the paint at the paper ,
I see no reason why you shouldn't have a dog.
I have a cat as my fur baby. She is lovely but I still miss having a dog. I can't have one due to being too unwell to look after it and train it properly. If you are well enough I think you should 'go for it'.
Many people on here have a dog. Remember to put pictures on when you choose it!
I have a dog and COPD and have never had any problems with dog hair even though she does shed hair. Wouldn't be without her and she knows when I'm not feeling too good and doesn't stray far from my chair.
No it is not true as i have 6 dogs 4 pups and they are all in the same room as i am in right up till i go to bed and they do not afectme at all and i have copd

Do it I have 3 long haired german shepherds. doesn't make a difference to me. Poodles are good for sensitive folk and don't shed.

I think pets are great for our mental and physical well being. Nothing like a a cuddle when you're feeling low and they don't have to be told why you feel down. Not to mention the kick up the bum we sometimes need to go for a walk on a cold wet day no excuse when you have a dog. Have fun!
I have a mini schnauzer, Pauline; they are very low shedders . He is black and for a brief time post trim, I can see dander but it doesn't seem to affect me. He brings lots of pleasure & motivation to get going. X
My daughter has the same miniature Schnauzer we regularly have him to stay he does not affect my breathing in any way.
Good on you go get one as if you show him or her love they will show it back to you for years to come

Charlie is a Maltese/shitzu,& doesn't shed.
Do get a doggy though,he has bought us so much love & companionship xx🐶
Waiting to see photos of your new doggie friend now. I have a cat, no problems with fur/dander even though she does moult quite a lot.
I have an elderly dog and I have severe COPD. I would love another dog but I won't get one because I would hate to fall off my perch and leave my dogs behind. It's much easier to rehome one dog with caring family members than to rehome multiple dogs. If you have someone to care for your dog if you are taken to hospital for instance, I'd say go for it. Dogs add so much pleasure to life. All the best.
I've two Yorkshire Terriers, poppy is a miniature & Rhys is her daddy, he's 9 & poppy's 2, I've severe emphysema & osteoporosis, throughout all the pains we have to suffer or the breathlessness I can not see a life without them, both are so loyal & friendly.
I'm 56yrs old yet at times feel so much older, but I smile everyday for having these two is my sunshine every day, go ahead get a little dog, you won't regret it.
