Greetings fellow COPDers. Would anyone who is a 16-hour-a-day oxygen user and has been on holiday either in the UK or Europe, managed? I have NHS concentrater and liquid oxygen, the latter more portable than the former.

If you contact your oxygen suppliers beforehand they can deliver your oxygen needs to the place in the UK where you will be staying, with the owner's permission.

Hi

From Air Liquide others may be different.

uk.airliquide.com/en/home-h...

NHS oxygen equipment can not be used outside of U.K.

You can hire a concentrator anywhere In Europe. They are not portable but might become so in the near future.

If you can afford it, you can buy a portable concentrator with extra batteries that will last as long as you have the battery hours. Easily charged up, Just depends on your need.

Holidays in UK are covered by your NHS supplier, just tell them in advance and they will deliver to said address.

Portable oxygen concentrators can also be hired.

It does not have to be hired in Malta. You can contact Pure O2 on 0870 712 0202 (UK - 24hr) or 0161 747 2617 (UK 9 to 5pm) or Intermedical on 0800 028 2194 or Airliquide as detailed by Stone (above) or a variety of other suppliers to discuss your requirements.

Yes I realize that you may place your order here in U.K. But if your order is not available in the country you are visiting. The sites that Stone has pointed to, says quite plainly you cannot take their equipment, and by ringing said numbers and clarifying, out of the country.

So I am back to square one for hiring short term portable, carrying free flow 02 in Malta!!

Whilst equipment supplied by your home oxygen company cannot be taken out of the country that is not the case with hired equipment. I, and many others on here, have rented portable oxygen concentrators here in the UK then travelled with them to various countries abroad. I am sure stone-UK would say the same. I would again suggest you contact a reputable oxygen company to discuss your needs.

Hi

For clarification the link i supplied is my NHS oxygen provider air liquide, and like all others, will not allow equipment supplied by the NHS to be permitted for use used outside of the UK.

To hire a suitable POC, which meets your requirements contact try.

healthoxygen.com/rental-inf...

They will need a copy of you oxygen prescription.

If possible try a test for several minutes walking at you normal pace.

You may have difficulty if you are on a high flow rate, I think the highest is 2/3.

Pulse on demand go much higher.

Many thanks for your help in direction. These avenues have been explored, having had conversations with many suppliers.

Hiring equipment in U.K. And taking hired equipment abroad means much greater insurance and extra baggage, & a need for the equipment to have a static address abroad. I have purchased a pulse machine 'inogen' (with back pack from the USA) which has served me well flying. But it seems I will have to invest in a free flow machine in the future.

Many thanks Stone

Hi

If your current POC will suffice for part of your journey.

Have a look at

Hi Patricia, I have hired a POC several times and never had to pay extra insurance. It did not interfere with my luggage allowance either as I just carried it on as hand luggage. And I have travelled to different addresses without it being a problem too. Perhaps you just spoke to the wrong person?

Hi do you know where I can hire one?

My oxygen supplier take the same equipment I have at home, concentrator, spare tank and cylinders for going outdoors to where I am staying. Then collect after I have left. They need a few days notice, and permission from the people it will be left with. No problems.
