My friend has been taken off seretide because it seems to make you more prone to lung infections. Been on it for years and go from one lung infection to another. Any comments?

From the leaflet about Seretide:

•Increased number of colds have been reported in patients with COPD.

The following side effects have also been reported in patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD):

•Pneumonia and bronchitis (lung infection).

Hi Mrsmummy I had been on seretide for many years before I had it changed due to repeated infections. Witch they now put down to my low immune system for witch I am waiting to see a immunologist.

Hi I have not heard that seretide dose that. But I used to be on it and had it changed to another inhaler. And at the time I was suffering from repeat infections. I will ask my consultant if that was the reason they changed it. Thanks for the information.

It is in the supplied leaflet.

Hi as everyone is different. I am sure that if my consultant though it was to do with the inhaler. He wouldn't refer me to another consultant

Agreed. It is a side effect and not everyone gets them.

After repeated infections I was taken off seratide id 2015 and went onto Fostair, Consultant explained that as my immune system was very low Fostair would be better for me.

And is the new inhaler any better. Have you stopped having the repeated infections. Just interested as I am in the same situation and am waiting to see a immunologist as my consultant dosnt think it has to do with the inhalers

I like Fostair it has the advantage that I can take extra doses if need be. A couple of months after starting the Fostair I also started taking daily antibiotics for nine months of the year. Since taking both I have only had two infections this year so I am very happy.

The main reason to move people on to Fostair from Seretide was the fact it only costs about half as much as the Seretide, and represents a significant long term saving for the cash strapped NHS. It is still a dual action long term preventer medicine and likely to carry similar long term risks to the user.

I am interested in this. I was changed to Seretide from Becatide in 2013 after I complained that Becatide just did not seem to be working & it WAS better for my asthma. My run of chest infections started about Oct 2012 which lead to Bronchiectasis being diagnosed in 2014. Now the infections are getting worse & more frequent & my GP is referring me back to a consultant at the hospital. I will raise this when I next see a doctor the practice asthma nurse or consultant. Can't blame bronc on Seretide it was coming anyway but repeated infections makes me wonder about a change of medication. If anything changes I'll put a posting on.
