Hi all I'm new. Iv been having SOB and have had spidomerty test at my gp's and said all was normal but I'm not convinced and feel something just isn't right. didn't get any results but saw on the machine that my fev1/ratio was 0.80 and when Iv looked on line it should be higher, I'm 31 give up smoking 2 months ago.

I was also given an inhaler by another doctor previously to this which helps and I take it 2/3 a day but doctor said from the results I don't have asthma

Hi Tinkz, welcome to the site. Well done with giving up smoking. just giving up ciggies should improve your breathing given time especially with the help of an inhaler. Gentle exercise helps inprove lung capacity too. How about ringing BLFs help line, they can help with any questions.

Hi Tinkz. I've just joined and am in NZ too. As Joyce says, have you had a chest x ray? Surprised your doc didn't give you a spiro reading. Mine was 51% - sounds like I'm luckier than a lot of people on here but guess that's where I'll be at eventually. All the best with it.

No I had a cat scan which came back normal but it wasn't a high def CT. she said all results (ct and spidometry ) normal, not sure weather to leave it or push for further testing as I'm concerned my fev1/r should be higher. I'm so so anxious she prescribed medication for that but it doesn't help with anxiety of this

you know your own body better than anyone,so if you think something is not right then definitely go get a second opinion. Welcome to the site and let us know how you get on please

Thank you all, I'm sure something not right I have a tight chest feeling until I take ventolin which clears it straight away and feel good. I'm not struggling to do things but without the ventolin feel like I breath deeper than normal. I'm scared stiff and anxiety is getting the better of me, I'm struggling. I have a young child

I was on Ventolin for years but after the spiro test, I was given Breo Ellipta - one dose daily. Makes a world of difference. Available in NZ

There is a possibility what you are experiencing is being caused by your anxiety. I believe to be diagnosed with COPD one of the criteria is an FEV1/FVC of less than 70%. If you look at Wikipedia at this link it says normal FEV1/FVC is about 80% or .80.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FEV1/...

The mind is a powerful thing and it can create symptoms due to anxiety, I am not saying there is nothing wrong and it never hurts to get a second opinion if you don't feel things are right.

Thanks you Jackd up 😊 I hope it's just anxiety

Assuming you saw Fev1/FVC ratio - 80% is 'in the normal range'. Ask for a copy of the results, they are yours, you're entitled to them (UK).
